    Willard owners. Question please.

Noticed the ‘crown guard’ on my Willard looks really wonky. Is this normal or are they supposed to be straight? It’s a brand new watch.

Mine isn't like that and that doesn't look right at all. Looks like it's been blended, and not that well either. Definitely return.

Mine's an original , and each side looks straighter than that.

It's a Seiko, what with chapter ring alignments I'm not convinced that QC is what it once might have been.

I’d return that. For the first time in ages I was ogling watches in windows at the weekend and came across a large display of Seiko divers varying in price from about £300 (solar divers in the sale) to over £2000. Tbh I’ve lost track of their offerings and if you’d swapped some
of the price tags around I’d have been none the wiser which were the cheap ones and which were expensive, the level of finish looked average to poor regardless of the RRP.

It looks as if it may have been polished at some time ?

A nice 6105-8110/9 is one of my favourite divers, wear great, looks great (IMO).

Just checked mine, and both sides are identical. Which Willard one is it though, it might be like on a specific model maybe?

    It’s the glacier save the ocean 1970 re-interpretation. 42mm.

Bummer. Rang up for a replacement and it’s now out of stock and discontinued.

She’s going to try and track one down and let me know. I hope so, the watch is a stunner.

Ah, that doesn't bode well then. I wonder of they are selling returns as new?

Not so noticeable from a distance. But bugging me now I know it’s wonky.

Although will probably keep if it can’t be replaced.

    Goldsmiths have history of this.
I returned an "unworn" shop window display Tag Monaco which had a few dents half polished out of the cashback.
So much metal had been removed that the last digit of the serial number was missing.

    Never used them since.

The brushing on the top of the case doesn't look right either, not concentric enough (if that's the right term).
Despite sarky comments about Seiko quality control there is no way it left Seiko like this.
I wonder if the original buyer or recipient, if it is a return, had no knowledge of what a screw down crown is and used a screwdriver or similar to try and pry it out? I'd definitely return this one mate.

Thanks for that spot. Hadn’t noticed that. Here’s hoping they can come through with a replacement

Return and look for a used one if they’re no longer available. You’ll never be able to ignore that.

This thread got me thinking about my Willard - black dial (purchased back in 2022) before the edition of the small lume plot next to the date window at the 3.....the crown guards look straight on mine from what I can see the the photos I have of the watch.

Good luck finding a replacement, hope you're successfully oh, I picked mine up from Beaverbrooks.

I can't see the wonkiness myself - is it that the edges of the crown guard aren't dead straight? They aren't in the photos of other examples either. The edge might have been rounded off a little bit differently. Are they done by hand? I don't see it as a flaw unless I'm missing something. The brushing on the case looks fine to me as well, not brilliant but as good as the example in the video.

Damaged goods can be finished off by hand at the sellers workshop.

Judging by the size & depth of the case back dents in mine after an obvious re-polish, the watch had either
    A) been in a car crash, or;
    B) on the window display during a smash & grab raid involving a half brick.
