Vintage Seiko - hunting for details

    Hi all.
I have just bought this for the very conservative sum of £49. Feels like a bargain for what is described as ‘working, but needs maintenance’.
Main current issue is I can’t find much about it! Clearly the due diligence was not done, but I spent more on dinner last night so…meh!

I think it must be from latest early 50s as some Lord Marvels have a similar feel but this appears older. I found a catalogue from the 30s also with similar appearance but not the same.

I’m wishing it’s a ‘54 as then I’ll give it to my father for his birthday next year!

Ah yes. Should have said. It’s a 13025 movement and looks like a little stylised bird (?crane) logo.
I’ve been scouring Google but it’s not helping

A bit of googling reveals that Seiko used Swiss movement in the 1920's, manufactured by a company called Moeris. SKS branded movement were either made by Moeris or, I suspect, made under license by Seikosha Suwa.

Here's a couple of links with a bit of early Seiko history.

    https://adventuresinamateurwatchfett...vel-from-1956/

This has a photo of the Seiko calibre 10 as used your watch, which is definitely a Moeris derivative.

    http://nakahiro.parfait.ne.jp/moji/sks.html

It looks like your watch could date from the 1920's.

    Cheers,
    Gary

Nice little early Seikosha for under £50 , well done !
I think there's a YouTube video of a watch service on one of these .... can't remember the channel but the title was something like Swiss Seiko or when Seiko was Swiss

I like that very much. Superb find for £49. Hope you can get it repaired/serviced.

    Great buy!

    Plated case I guess?

I'm interested in old Seikos and nice to see your one in good condition.

Here's a similar contemporary to yours.

I've always dated it as 1950's but no more accurate than that.

    Cheers,
    Neil.

    Lovely!
I’ve pulled the trigger on a NOS case so I may do a heart transplant for mine promptly in my ownership (I suspect the case will arrive before the watch) but it will depend a little how bad the tarnishing is…

I love an old Seiko and rarely pass up the chance to share my P+J… there are more expensive pieces in my box and even in the Seiko back catalogue but this one speaks to me.

That's a nice one. I had the chronometer version of that.

This is my favourite vintage Seiko.

    Cheers,
    Neil.
