Can I ask you to raise a glass tonight to the memory of the crew of the Solomon Browne, all lost on the attempted rescue of the Union Star 42 years ago tonight.
All 8 crew were lost, as were the 8 crew of the Union Star.
Trevelyan Richards' RNLI Gold Medal was later stolen from the RNLI HQ in a robbery. It has never been recovered.

I will. Brave men indeed. Whenever I visit in Mousehole I walk up the hill to the old Station and think of their sacrifice and the loss of lives.

Though I was only 14 at the time I remember it as I lived only about 12 miles from the lifeboat station.

One of the few charities I give money too.

There but for the grace of God.

    The bravest of men.

I'll raise a glass. Likewise with charity contributions; I grew up in Deal, Kent and remember the rocket going up to call the brave guys.
