    2023 Watch Balance Audit

    INCOMINGS = 1

    Garmin Forrunner 245

    OUTGOINGS = 1

    Tudor Black Bay 58.

    BALANCE = 10 UNCHANGED

Reasons ... I have started to do more variation in exercise than just the cycling and sailing so bought the Garmin to track strength training, walking and table tennis so I get a complete view of my activities. I will also use it for skiing and sailing.

I only wear it when an activity is in progress and for walking I'm now on the double watch programme ... will probably do the same with the skiing. Maybe a bit sad but I just see it as a data logger/GPS for use in the activity rather than a watch.

Sold the BB58 as I was on a 1 in 1 out plan when I bought the Mark XX ... took a year to get around to selling but in the end it had to go as it wasn't getting any wear as the Mark XX is now my default watch.

How is everyone's watch balance looking for 2023??

Interesting, and well done on staying in control.

    My own...

    Incoming

    Seiko MM300 SLAJ021J1
    IWC Pilot's Chrono IW388103
    Glashutte Original PanoInverse
    Omega Planet Ocean 2209.50.00
Ulysses Nardin Executive Dual Time (see below)

    Outgoing

    Omega Speedmaster Pro
    Ulysse Nardin Executive Dual Time

    Overall movement

    From 9 to 12

All of my incomings were long-term wants, so the increase in numbers was always planned and therefore not unwelcome. I won't be going above the current twelve now, though, so one in will also require one out; trouble is, I don't really have anything that I'd happily let go.

My stated aim for the last two years has been to reduce my collection 12, so my commitment to that has been very poor to say the least LOL.

Not a great year, but I noticed prices were heading north so bought watches I previously had as I thought I won't be able to afford them in the future - classic man maths

I bought 3 watches this year:

    2018 Speedmaster Sapphire Sandwich
    2019 Oris Divers 65
    2021 Black Bay 58 Black

The Speedmaster and the Oris have gone but the 58 remains.

That's the second Speedmaster I've sold, it went in August and I've recently found myself looking for a third. Somebody please help me.

Just remembered I sold a Longines Legend Diver in early 2023 but I only had that about 3 months, was too big for me.

    Pretty neutral for me!

    Incoming = 0

    Outgoing = 0

    Balance = 8

Which has made me realise that I’ve more bikes in the garage than watches in the watch box.

    I’m not cured, just diverted!

    2023 Watch Balance Audit

Great thread. Slightly busy year for me this year, not much stuck around.

    Incoming:

    Longines spirit 37mm Champagne
    Montblanc Star Legacy
    Serica 4512
Nomos Club campus Absolute Grey 36
    G-Shock GMWB5000MB
King Seiko KSK SJE083 (though currently up for sale)

    Out:
    Seiko SPB207 MM200 reduced
    Serica 4512
Nomos Club campus Absolute Grey 36
    G-Shock GMWB5000MB
    Doxa Sub200 whitepearl

    Balance: 5 (+1 net)

I’m currently without a dive watch and while I’m increasingly disenchanted with the concept of a tough tool watch, I quite fancy a Sinn U50. It’s my 40th in the summer so I can see a big purchase in the near future.

    I think that's everything.

This has definitely been a year of trying some oddball stuff out.

For me the selling has stalled because of living in Europe makes the TZ-SC route (which was my favourite) a dead end.

Ive slowly reduced the collection over the past few years due to life changing reasons.
Dad and 2 Brothers passing away & Mum sadly in very bad health, this has changed me in many ways.
3 possibly 4 of these shown will be going, either outright sell or trade for lower value watches.

Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year to Everyone.

Currently I have 4 watches. Actually I have a few more, but they are either being worn by someone else in the house or are kept for sentimental reasons.

    Current 4

    Omega Dynamic III
    CWC 83 Reissue
    Longines Cal 370
    Dunhill Facet

    In

CWC 83 Reissue. I actually sold this watch in 2022 and bought it back this year.

    In and Out

    Seiko SPB147
    Baltic Aquascaphe
    CWC Diver QM60
    Oris Diver 65

    Out
    Dunhill Mechanical
    CWC Diver QM60.

    Balance -2

A year of buying and selling CWC divers really.I bought one in 2022, sold it in January of this year. Bought the same model agin and sold it again and have finally settled on the 83 reissue

Not much movement for me - I've got more watches than I get through most of the time. At some point I'd like to add a GS 9F GMT, but I have put that on hold with nursery bills making a dent in the trinket budget.

    Incoming: 1

    IWC Pilot Chronograph 41mm

    Outgoing: 1

IWC Pilot Chronograph Le Petit Prince (turns out I missed it, but the 41mm is definitely more wearable, especially with the bracelet)

    Balance: 9 +/- 0

    Net +1 for the year.

    All G-Shocks surprisingly for me!

    In
    GA-B2100C-9AER
    GW-M5610U-1ER

    Out
    GW-5000

I realised the GW-5000 was more G than I was every going to need or want, given how infrequently I wore it. I think I wear the 5610 more, I prefer the slightly lighter weight. The GA-B2100C is a fun summer watch (it's yellow!).

My end of year balance is 11, including a Garmin, so 8 non-quartz. Of those, 2 need repair (and have done for a while), so my normal daily wear has mostly been rotating among the other 6.

I am determined to be far more disciplined next year and add three and no more. I already have a Tornek Rayville TR660 on order, delivery in January. I anticipate adding another Seiko 5 Sports GMT and probably a Squale Master expecting them to drop another edition in the Summer.

I’m very grateful that the watch abstinence club doesn’t have penalties, because I would be considerably poorer.

Tough one but I’d say anything ordered and paid for this year doesn’t count toward next years numbers.

Here is my Seiko balance sheet:

In and out this same year:
    Seiko SLA043
    Seiko SLA017
    Seiko SLa057

    Out:
    Seiko SLA023
    Seiko SPB143
    Seko 7548

On the way out: Seiko SPB213

From 7 Seiko's down to just one, but I think it's a good one.

It is a close call between the Squale Subino with a 35mm original Blancpain/Rayville case and acrylic insert from the late 50's

And the 2531.80 Seamaster from 2004

The Seamaster just about wins, there is something about the watch that makes it one of my overall favourites.

I’ve been very good and I thought I’d not bought anything all year.

But upgraded my Garmin Fenix 5 to a 6 pro as I did a lot more hiking and running.

That was bought used and sold a fenix 5 and 735xt

    So now have
    Speedmaster
    Seamaster 2254
    Datejust (1968 birthyear)
    Bretiling Aerospace

I’m happy with what I have and haven’t seen anything that merits a purchase.

Although I have gone made of new hiking and running kit. Which is at least lower entry (sometime!!) than timepieces.
