Bull Terriers - definitely the pottiest of dogs!

My wife just snapped this pic of Dottie in her bed.

BT's always like to be completely covered over or confined in a small space but this bit of DIY takes the biscuit!

    Cheers,
    Neil.

I sent this picture to my wife. Biggest EBT fan this side of the North Sea. Thanks! I sent her a WhatsApp message with only 'Dottie' + the picture and she reacts immediately!

Gotta say, they’re my favourite breed of dog…..don’t tell my Welsh Springer Spaniel.

My friend has one called Brian……briantheunderdog on Instagram. Great fun.

If they don’t want to go for a walk they don’t!

They are great, we are on our second but quite a "specialist" breed as they don't act anything like normal dogs.

You are right re the walking. They often positively eschew any form of exercise for the couch potato life style.

I've known of owners who have had to carry their BT's back home after a walk as they are incredibly stubborn and will just lie down!
    Cheers,
    Neil.

My son in Florida is completely in love with BT's after our first, Deana (my avatar).

Here's his one, Bianca, cooling off in the pool.

    Cheers,

I fantasise about a dog that doesn't want to go for a walk. Mine is either asleep or badgering for a five mile walk.

    I think he's eating flies,

He runs until he overheats and then either rolls in puddles or jumps in any available water.

And he didn't get the message about dogs not climbing on things.

    Just do it!

We waited for years before we got our Rottweiler (now nearly 3yrs ago). 'A man's best friend' is an understatement. We're always together, from the morning until the evening. A 120 lbs shadow, less than 20 inches from my left leg. I think it's a labrador in Rottweiler disguise. Others see a short-tempered, protective dog.

About EBT's. I asked my wife about the stubbornness when walking the bull terrier she once owned. She didn't have that 'laziness' experience with her dog. He always trotted along with her. Wearing a muzzle. He was not good with other dogs. "They challenged him. he never challenged other dogs. Never!" according to my (biased) wife... She used to live in Amsterdam, in Oud Zuid. Basically a 'posh' neighbourhood where she'd rented an apartment. According to her: "An evening walk a with a big, muzzle'd Bull Terrier walking next to you, gives you a lot of space on the sidewalk!"

Sadly, they're not the sharpest tool in the drawer. Or perhaps: that's good.

I remember a holiday at my inlaws. They had an old farm in France as their holiday home and I'd mowed the lawn. After that I was busy throwing 'The Ball': the EBT was totally mad when it came to play 'fetch'. I noticed a cat in the corner of the field and I threw the ball in that direction. The bully ran, picked up the ball and spotted the cat. 'System Overload'! What to do: return the ball or try to kill the cat. He ran back to me, spitted out the ball and returned to where he'd seen the cat. That cat was clever: he'd ran off the moment the dog turned around for the return of the ball. I think that the bully never got over that single event. Every time he started checking that spot where'd seen the cat! Weeks, months later he still had his eyes open for The Return Of The Cat.

They can be a bit of work but you get repaid a hundred fold.

    (With my youngest son).

Thanks. People keep telling me that dogs never look up. Mine disagrees.

I was inspired to post by yours - it remind me of an old friend who had one. whenever I stayed I'd wake up to find it asleep at the bottom of my bed and me with a sticky foot.

We lost our BT of 15 years back in May of this year, it broke us, swore we'd not have another dog until we'd had a couple of holidays,we lasted 6 weeks! OK we'll have another dog she says, but we're not having a puppy, it's not getting on the furniture and I don't want another BT, I want a nice dog, well this is where we are at!

    Oh please tell more!!!

(While writing this, a heavy dog is lying on my toes, just in front of me. That contact is only because he knows that my next move is walking towards the pantry behind the kitchen where we store his food...)

    Fantastic!

How he stays in contact with the lady on the picture. It's like my Rottweiler. He's always with me because my wife is at the office etc. But whén she's at home... well then all attention goes to her. Rottweilers tend to play-bite when they're happy. But my wife doesn't allow that. So when his level of excitement is high enough for play-biting then... he turns away from her and turns for me for the next level of 'play'.

Different bread, but equally stupid, lovely and misunderstood.

He’s 14 now, and going downhill rapidly, but he’s been an absolute rock to me, and a loving companion to my family/kids.

It’s all about how you treat them, the bread nonsense is just that.

    Cheers John.

We got Dottie at 18 months as she had mauled her previous owner!

The owner was a sister of a neighbour. They knew we had had Bull Terriers so asked if we might take her on.

After a full scale fight involving Dottie, my son, wife and me in the kitchen on the first day we calmed her down over time and now she is just like a little baby with us.

They take a bit of handling and must be looked after the right way, then they are fine.
    Cheers,
    Neil.

    Definitely true.

When Dot is fast asleep on her living room bed in the evening I will try to creep to the kitchen and open the fridge for a snack.

When I turn round she is sitting right behind me!

    Just a quick update.

My wife was putting Dottie's bedding in the washing machine today and left it in the basket until the first load was done.

    When she returned!

    Cheers,
    Neil.
