    BBC local presenters

Just been watching my local BBC news (East Midlands).

There must be at least 3 weather presenters, two regular ’anchors’ a number of sports reports and a plethora of feature reporters.

On an individual perspective how can a weather presenter who might do 1 in 5 make ends meet? Same for the feature reporters.

Is it the BBC just lump full time ££ on part time staff, or do they have other sources of income?

    The mind boggles.

I think that they do a bit more than just present. Anyway, what else is somebody named Sara Blizzard going to do?

Yeah, great name for a weather presenter. Luck or deedpole who knows!

Ben Rich was the weather presenter tonight, he’s not on much, hence the intrigue about it being a full time occupation.

Well they've missed a trick, he should be covering the Business and Financial News.

I find myself inexplicably attracted to an awful lot of lady weather presenters.

I think it's a combination of their cheerful authority and my age

I am really curious about this too - my BBC local news and weather presenters (Dorset) seem to just do the 18:30 news unless they do other journalism type work/gigs elsewhere? Do the weather people prepare and write their own content or is that done by meteorologists unless they are meteorologists?

Also, when you watch the main news and see some news from Washington USA presented by the Washington Correspondent, what on earth do they do when there isn’t any news to report from Washington?

Like her or not, there's always a large warm front coming in from the West with Carol Kirkwood.

they could also be doing other work behind the scenes for the broadcaster, i would imagine it is worth their time to work for them and its hardly back breaking labour in the rain all day

I always need to look up the weather after watching Carol.

Pretty sure that weather presenters are meteorologists in their own right. I guess they will potentially have other gigs at the same time (local radio and news outlets, etc.)

This is correct. I have known a couple of presenters over the years (one of my wife's best friends is one), and she has a PHD in Meteorology.
So clever my foot fell off.

The presenters are usually meteorologists although not always , they usually also i teroret the data and write their reports/scripts , produce , schedule and coordinate everything to do with the weather reports rather than just present .

Often they will freelance that service to other internet and radio vendirs and if they get famous in their own right they’ll do side gigs like appearances , adverts , whatever .

They are usually pretty busy as its a comparativeky small team that needs to generate maybe an hour of content every day.

I like Des Coleman he is East and West Midlands + a bit of a singer come actor. I think he had a small part in Eastenders back in the day.
