    Lego Question

Earlier today I wandered through the shop in one of the Lego discovery centres.

To pass the time I thought I’d see which set has the most pieces. Lord of the Rings was the winner with over 6k.

I know there are some knowledgable Lego folk on here so my question is which set has the most pieces overall? Maybe Lord of the Rings is the winner or is there an even bigger one out there?

The correct answer is the World Map with 11695 pieces. Second is the Eiffel Tower with 10001 pieces. The Lord of the Rings set is 8th in the list.

    See https://brickset.com/sets/query-45 for more.

I’m not sure on how many pieces but I do have my eyes set on this one for my son (and me!) for Christmas 😃

World Map doesn’t look the most exciting build. Might as well do a jigsaw

The perfect gift for any car lover
With 3,969 pieces and measuring over 60 cm (23”) long, this epic model makes a memorable gift for any super sports car fan.
It's just a matter of time...

The model is really excellent and looks great on display. The packaging and presentation is also immense but for me it was one of the most boring builds in Lego.

Made me realise that Lego Technic is not Lego. If you haven’t built Lego Technic before I would recommend trying a small model first to see if you get on with it. Plenty of people do but it was the first and last Technic build for me!

On the Lego uk site the Eiffel Tower is 10,001 pieces.

I was looking at this one in the shop, it caught my eye straightaway.

As you say a very tempting Christmas present.

What was it that didn’t work for you, as have my eye on this for my office wall?

Would have preferred the 911 but that is too expensive now.

I’ve not built any Lego, or Technic since I was a kid and the chassis 8860. Seemed fun back then, so genuinely interested before making a mistake & sounds like you’ve built a few.

I've built the DeLorean and the Saturn V recently:

    https://www.lego.com/en-ie/product/b...-machine-10300

    https://www.lego.com/en-ie/product/l...saturn-v-92176

Both were immense fun - lots of fun details, especially on the DeLorean. Great way to pass many hours. Neither of these are Technic, but do require you to pay good attention to what you're doing.

    Going for this next:

    https://www.lego.com/en-ie/product/concorde-10318

If you haven't done much Lego since you were young all I can say is go for it. You won't regret it.

Make sure you’ve got space to display the Concorde….it’s effin’ enormous!

So is the Saturn V - but at least you can display that vertically! It's a metre tall.

My dad (73) is also enjoying building these too. I've given him an F1 car (Technic), the Space Shuttle and a model of Tower Bridge and he's got great fun out of them all. His least favourite was the bridge - and I'd agree - it's a lot of repetition. The others are much more interesting from a technical point of view - the F1 car goes as far as building the engine with working pistons and a differential on the rear wheels.

If you’re careful to avoid sets with large amounts of repetition, and plan to build once and then display for eternity, then perhaps non-technical sets make the most sense. Otherwise, if you plan to build in a creative and technical way then you can’t beat technic lego. We’ve self-built siege catapults, electric band powered racers, remote control tanks with guns that fire, clock escapements, and much more from technical lego. It’s a great way for kids to learn how things work.

Despite a couple of attempts I never really got into LEGO Technic, but love creating architectural models with the standard sets. I find Meccano to be rather more versatile from an engineering perspective.

This is a coincidence, I too have the S5 and delorean and I’ve ordered Concorde.
I’ve still got to do the Defender and I’ve a Porsche in the loft.

My favourite model to build the last couple of years was the Saturn V, but then I’m a bit of a space nut!

I like all the Star Wars builds, particularly the Mandalorian stuff. Been holding out for the Death Star or Millenium Falcon appearing in my Christmas stocking, but alas not yet!

I have the 911 the Sian and the Bugatti. All are awesome. Build is great too. Keep meaning to sell more of the Lego collection but unbuilding them is less fun

Ye it’s a great build - the big trucks and cranes are excellent.
