    New Omega Releases

I’ve heard on the OF potential murmurs of Omega Days in November with some new announcements. Strong rumours of either a new FOIS or reduced Speedy.

    Anyone heard similar?

Would you care to link to these rumours since I am active member there and and have seen nothing recently other than the usual background babble. The chance of a Speedmaster Reduced reboot strikes me as very unlikely*, an update FOIS more believable perhaps but there is no more chatter there this week than previously. A new 3861 movement straight lug does make sense but I wonder if they would want to water down the special sauce Omega pretend the 321 NEW (New Ed White) has. The FOIS offered much of the same mojo at around a third of the price so needed to die if the 321 was to seem credible.

*it was a low rent thing the first time around and not in the market place Omega wants to inhabit these days.

Pretty long thread, and lots of filler but probably some truth.

    https://omegaforums.net/threads/murm...elease.163616/

I'll stick with my predictions and reckon in the next few months we will see a new reduced or FOIS (smaller Speedy)

Its madness. I just don't get it and especially in the current financial / watch economy climate.

Who do they think is spending that on an Omega dive watch? Id be surprised if they sell many Deep Black's at £11k and 2nd hand ones appear to struggle to sell at £7k.

The cynic in me is thinking they are just trying to push the upper limit of value so that a £11k watch seems good value?

Such a shame as its a lovely looking design just needs to be 42mm and maybe 14mm thick and around £8k list it might be an option.

Dear oh dear, what a complete ****-take. £50k for the Aqua-Terra 150m, a glorified clay pigeon with a mass-produced movement inside it??? Trying to sell these for Lange money is like trying to sell a Ford Focus for Ferrari money.

I hope they sell none of them and sober up.

I think they're strategic pieces rather than made to fill a gap in the market. The strategy being, were fed up of Omega being seen as a cheaper alternative to Rolex. We want Rolex to be seen as a cheaper alternative to Omega.

I have a feeling that is not going to work out for them.

The Planet Ocean is a lovely looking watch but is the price hike purely down to the case material?

I’ve got the SeMP GMT from 2007 - sword hands, not these PO monstrosities - and that was £725 from Sales Corner, new was £1300 or £1400

In daily use, what does the additional £19,500+ get me? Beyond a thicker, heavier watch, with a crappy He valve? Utterly laughable.

Stunning looking watch, I'd buy it if it was standard Ti or SS.... but £21,000? Good luck, Omega, but it's not for me!

Twenty one grand is just ludicrous. Completely and utterly stupid to the point where seeing anyone wearing one labels them as an idiot for having failed to see the laughable lack of a value proposition.

What on earth are Omega playing at?

Are they actually out of their tiny minds?!!!?

We want a bit of progression, some historic reissues, an updating of the range and instead we get a space cadet price for a lead PO and everything they make in a shade of ‘urinated-in swimming baths blue’.

Honestly Omega, just f*ck off and try harder.

Most of the models under 10k sit in display cases gathering dust unless discounted. Makes you wonder what they are thinking offering these at 21k!

Someone should tell Omega that they can source silicon nitride ceramic on AliExpress starting at four quid a lump.

I think they are relying on what Hublot and others rely on. Multi-brand ADs building package deals to secure that magical Daytona or off catalogue special watch.

Probably a good deal for some if you get two of these paired with a meteorite Daytona? Who knows. But they are definitely not relying on these being sold on merit alone.

I love the PO but if I was chucking £21k on a watch, it wouldn't be an Omega. Crazy price

I can’t think of a single reason to choose that if you have £20k to spend on a watch.

Nice though, although if I really wanted a thick Omega dive watch I’d get an Ultra Deep at half the price.

I think you hit the nail on the head. There is nothing that makes this worth 20k and there are plenty of better, nicer options if you did want to spend that money or less. I can’t imagine this being a grail watch for anyone. Is pretty bland, unremarkable and you can get a near identical looking watch for a hell of a lot less.

I would class myself and a bit of an Omega fan boy but this sums up the stupid direction the brand is moving.

Would’ve a five pointed crown on the dial made this watch worth the asking price?

I guess the thinking is if you price your watches absurdly high for long enough these eventually become the new baseline/expectation for the brand (they've been slowly elevating themselves for years with the launch of the in-house models to justify the price hikes). Do it for long enough and they appeal to a whole new audience than the folk who remember £800 seamasters and £1200 moonwatches.

Maybe if these end up in a 50% off sale someone will think it’s good value?!

This must be what the moonswatch has helped fund!

No, their 42mm Ti Yachtmaster is around half the price. Rolex, now known as the poor man's Omega.

Omega‘s pricing has gone completely mental.

Does anyone buy them at RRP?

Much as I love Omegas, to the man in the street they will never have the same cachet as Rolex.

    These prices are absurd.

I do love omega watches and built up a small collection of 7 over the years but the modern day pricing are vomit inducing and can’t see myself in the market for anything new

You are just right. The annual price raise exercise didn’t do much to me, but this is just vulgair.

Omega’s pricing has been ridiculous last few years. But this is another level. May be the Ti movement is jacking up the price?

It's any figleaf with watch companies it seems. Silicon nitride ceramic costs peanuts, titanium costs peanuts, though you do have to put in the tooling to work with these materials I guess. Actually the unit cost of that investment could be quite high if they sell approximately three of these watches.
