Chief constable claims service in the Falklands war he was 15 years old at that time.

As you might imagine there's quite a lot of outrage on military sites.

"Ch Supt Adderley, who spent 10 years in the Navy and served in the Falklands before joining the police, told the M.E.N: “I was born in Crumpsall hospital and was raised in New Moston".

    https://www.northwichguardian.co.uk/...-medal-claims/

FYI you can wear relatives medals on the right side on remembrance day, you wouldnt wear them amongst your own on any old occasion.

Unlike North Korea and other country's we dont get awarded hundreds anyway,I have one thats it.

OK so on the face of it he might merely have breached protocol by pinning a medal on the wrong side of of his police tunic:

"In a statement, Adderley admitted wearing two medals awarded to his brothers.

He also acknowledged he should have worn these separately to his own medals, and on the other side of his chest, to indicate they belonged to family members rather than him."

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...ar-medalt.html

    .. but this is troubling:

"In previous media statements Northamptonshire Police has referred to him as a Falklands veteran" - one has to wonder where that's come from.

Scrupulous honesty is the least you can expect from a chief constable.

I’ve two brothers who were in the RAF, they’ve both served in Iraq and one in The Falklands but neither can be considered veterans.

In fact, at the start of one of the Iraq wars, one brother got posted off to Belize!

Yes, but he wouldn't have been awarded the South Atlantic Medal he wears in that case.

If he has anything in common with most/many Chief Constables then he isn't fit to serve tea

The rosette on the ribbon signifies that the recipient of the aforementioned medal saw active service and was involved in the conflict.

Yet another Walt added to the growing list of many.

Im interested to see the answer to the first claim. I know some ‘young fellows’ were confined to medical quarters in non combat roles.

No he would have been a school boy.

We did take 17 (nearly 18) year olds to NI but they where not supposed to patrol or leave the camp until 18.

This of course was not always adhered to,but should have been.

18 years old and carrying a lot of responsibility.

Sorry, you misunderstood what I meant, there is ( as I’m sure you know) a military presence in the Falklands all the time, so lots of people have served there but were not involved in the war,
It has been pointed out that he wears a campaign medal which he shouldn’t have.
    Cheers..

Should be a dismissal. But I doubt it will be - it seems that dishonesty in public life is accepted nowadays.

IMHO he should be fired for disgraceful dishonesty with a ‘non-politically correct’ size 12 delivered robustly to his walt-arse to help him through the door!

F**king disgraceful. Zero integrity at Chief Constable level, how can the public trust the entire force below him?

Not with that medal and rosette, unfortunately for him that’s one of the medals that everyone who was entitled to one is on a list on the web.

It could have been worse, he might have been one of the 16,000 that were on the balcony that day.

While we are on the subject I found this memorial chapel by chance a few years ago,it doesnt seem to be known by everyone.

Ive been a few times to pay my respects and sit in contemplation (I didnt serve in the Falklands but have seen the effects on those who did).

I have a book of Royal Marine cartoons to donate to the books they have on display for my next visit.

    Directions
    Getting to the Falklands Chapel

The Chapel is located in the grounds of Pangbourne College, near Reading in Berkshire, RG8 8LA.

In other news, finally medals ( full size) and ribbon can now be mounted at public expense. About time too.

My mate served with 2 Para at Goose Green, luckily he was not ordered to follow Col Jones, though his Company Sgt Major did and paid the ultimate price.. He's still bitter that Jones lead his men into a Cul de sac, which he claims was a suicide mission Jones instigated. His account of the attack on the Sir Galahad leaves you cold. The whole escapade was a SNAFU from start to finish. Our boys won against all odds, this Police officer should know better than to steal other mans valour. Thank you for the link of the chapel I shall pass it on to my mate.

The Walt has been suspended pending a criminal investigation over this after the amount of complaints that have been made over him wearing the medal. Hopefully he’s given the boot.

What's really staggering is that claims have been made, on his behalf, that he actually served in the Falklands, not just that he wore some family medals on the wrong side. As any of us who are his age or older would know, that's just not possible. I think the youngest was 17 (one of my cousins was in the Navy and was very nearly 18 when the conflict started, I know he headed down there at some point in May, when he'd have been 18) but I'm not sure that you'd have been front line at that age.

But unless you're a total idiot, you'd realise that you would be found out eventually. And that the more senior you are, the more likely it is that that will be the case because you're under greater scrutiny. For the sake of a petty and trivial lie (though I totally understand that it's neither petty or trivial to the veterans or the relatives of those who died) he's going to be fired, lose his pension and bring shame on his family - I just don't get why anyone would say such a thing.

Indeed - Every paintball site has someone on the team who claims to be ex-SF.

My fencing instructor was ex-army and always said he was a chef, so I guess he was something deadly in reality!

This copper sounds like a total dick if he ever made the claims - However, it's possible some over zealous member of the PR team called him a Falklands veteran (if he actually served there post the war) and that the medal wearing was just a case of poor judgement on his part.

    This is true

But only now are we beginning to realise the where not as bad as we thought (sodexo or whatever are crooks serving slops), I knew some right hard cooks.

If it was a fight between a regular soldier with a pick axe handle or a Cook with a ladle my money would be on the cook (maybe).

    Good grief!

A fascinating in a car crash kind of way site.

What is wrong with these people?

It reminds me of the fabulous and infamous 419eater:

I was at a veterans coffee and chat yesterday, the Colonel and one very old boy (WW2 I was told) may have been wearing a regimental tie.

That was about it, anyone looking in would have not given a secound glance as to who we where.

There was no bravado or boasting, though we did swap a few funny storys.

One chap I was talking to I could see by his manner and eyes needed help (and was getting it).

It may have been a different story if someone had thrown a thunder flash in,I expect we would all have instinctivley dived under the table.

I do like the fact that someone high up rank who I would have hid from in the army I can now call mate.
