    Oven tripping RCD

Wondering if the collective could assist
I bought new unused oven from ebay apparently ex demo
The one it replaced was a plug in sub 3kw single oven - this is 3.5 and there was a 6mm cooker cable in the aperture ( turned off at the board 32 amp mcb)
I wired this into the rear of said oven and all seemed good - set the clock but as soon as I selected any programme it trips the RCD
Seemed to sit happily with just the clock on it was only when I selected a programme I could almost detect the power turning on and it just tripped
I’m try to ascertain if it’s a dodgy oven or the wiring - I’m thinking as it doesn’t trip when it’s turned on it’s pointing to a faulty oven
I’ve removed it for now and plugged the old unit back in for now
    Any pointers would be appreciated

From what you say, it is the oven, probably earth leakage, can you measure between live and earth with the oven disconnected , if it has mechanical controls turn the oven on and see if you get anything, if it has electronic controls it is far more complicated

It has pre programmed dial as far as I can see
I’ve contacted the seller I’ve a feeling it’s got wet at some point - maybe

Check the wires are the same length. I had a tripping hot tub and the
electrician re cut the wires so they were closer to the same length

Does that make the wires a tripping hazard?

I've had this with an existing oven, turned out to be a faulty heating element which I replaced for the princely sum of £7.99.

Yep, that matches my experience. The fan and light would work but as soon as the element was turned on it tripped.

It’s often a faulty element tripping the rcd / breaker

I had something similar with our main oven cooking the Sunday roast. Gave the oven a good clean and things improved.

Usually a heating element. When not used they get a bit damp and the elements go first. Usually around £30 for the part
