Recommendations please - BHI qualified repairs wirral/ Liverpool Centre or nearest to

Can anyone recommend anyone on the wirral for some good quality watch work or in the city centre liverpool - my guy has retired.

I have a Big pilot with the usual crown stub slipped back into the case and a Blackwater that needs a clean and some other odds and sod that I know need doing.

    Thanks in anticipation.

Try Meadows Jewellers, or at least give them a call to understand capabilities.

Not used them myself but I have seen some good reviews. They are about 4 miles or easy 15 minute bus ride from the city centre.

I’ve not found anyone local. Stay away from that watch repair shop in Liscard at all costs. I usually try and find who is the go to guy for a particular watch and post it to them. A local guy would be great, but it is a dying trade.

What is the brand and model, that might help with recommendations etc. Better to send it to someone who knows what they are doing. As we see on here a lot of armchair tinkerers are up their own ar**s.

Brian, try Alexander at perpetual-time.com - close to the city centre, he tends to specialise in Rolex (Ive had two sorted by him) but worth contacting to check.

    Phoenix Watches on Richmond street.

Had a Speedmaster repaired by them when I tested the water resistance at Siam Park in Tenerife and also fixed my wife’s rolex.

Do you mean watchcraft ? I have used him for seiko hand swap on a brand new prospex PADI and the work was OK.

......but a dealer in shropshire once mentioned that he had lost a watch - a cheap one though . Have you had an issue with his work ? PM me if you like.

Word of mouth reviews are always worth heeding, whether good or bad, but should be treated with caution. It depends what the job involved, most repairers will do good work on a straightforward job and may earn rave reviews, but with the best will in the world some watches are in such poor condition that the outcome of the job will never be perfect and consequently the owner will be disappointed. Most people I deal with are realistic, I’ve never had problems but I always try to communicate well and manage the owners’ expectations. It possible to polish a turd but it’ll still be a turd.

Strongly recommend that watch owners discuss the job with the repairer and disclose as much info as they can about the watch and the background to any problems........if the watch has been dropped or has leaked water just admit it, I get frustrated trying to resolve puzzles that could’ve been resolved if the owner had been more open. Repairers should make it clear what is and is not being done, I believe strongly that parts and labour costs should be transparent and itemised but that’s not the common approach in the watch repair trade.

The number if repairers is dwindling and the chances of finding a local guy are diminishing, posting watches to repairers is becoming the norm. Not ideal, but that’s how it is.

Good points raised - I am going to discuss one job with a repairer this week and we shall see.

    update

I spoke to Alex at perpetual time and he advised me that IWC have restricted spare part supply outside the orgnisation so I chickened out and the job has gone back to IWC.

So no further yet - but I will be speaking to Tom at phoenix watches soon about another chunk of work so I will update the thread.

I can also add that https://www.primetimewatchrepairs.co.uk/ are well worth trying. Very good, professional and realistic with pricing.

I contacted Prestige a few weeks ago re an IWC service, they politely declined with the response that they cannot source IWC parts.
