    Elgin General Service Time Piece

Seeking some information and advice. A neighbour has asked me if I know anything about these watches and sent me pictures of this specific watch that belonged to his father. I know very little aside from the G.S.T.P supposedly stands for General Service Time Piece. It doesn't currently work but I'm certain I can resolve that.

    The questions asked:

    1. Would it be of interest to a military museum?
    2. Value in its current state?
    3. Value if sympathetically restored?

    Many thanks in advance.

    Hello
These are quite common and an Elgin example will not have the pull of the bigger named examples such as JLC.
It’s a nice watch but pocket watches in general are not exactly popular at the moment so value £100-200!
I would have though any museum that wants one has one so if donated it will sit in their stores
I would get it running and have it as a desk clock - it’s what I have done with my JLC GSTP.
    I hope this helps

There is one on EBay U.K. at the moment - WW2 American Elgin Military Pocket Watch. Perhaps watch the auction to get some idea of value.

States American, but in fact GSTP.

They aren’t valuable, but I like the coin edge design of your Elgin.

I have an almost perfect Buren GSTP, I think I paid something between £60 and £80.
