    Got to love a Speedmaster....

    Hi

Just completed a mini Speedmaster project.

Bought a stock '78 watch and then sourced a ghost bezel from California , Tropical MKII dial from Argentina , full STS service and then handset work by Mr Freese and you end up with this....

Looks great congratulations. I was tempted to do something similar but ultimately didn't have the balls. My Replica will fill that spot.

Eagerly awaiting the delivery of a White dial MoonPhase Speedmaster too!!

Often wondered what my own Replica would look like on a steel bracelet, so thanks. Looks good, but I think mine will stay on a strap for now.

People tend to not like Frankens but this is amazing! Well done!

    Hi

Thanks for the comments.....it's all genuine vintage omega and the beauty is I still have the original correct dial & bezel so can always switch back , however this version is way cooler IMO !

I want to like it, sorry I dont.

Not a patch on a lovely black dial and bezel.

Personally I like it apart from the bezel. A worn black bezel would be my preference

Personally, I think that bezel is too far gone. At a glance it’s like the insert has fallen out.
Also not a fan of putting a MkII dial in that case.
But as long as you like it, who cares !

    Hi

I guess the MKII dial isn't a million miles from the non-step dial we swapped it with.....of course naturally occurring tropical/brown step dials from a '69 watch are also incorrect & will set you back £3k+ versus several hundred £s for a MKII !

I'm a bit on the extreme side of things with ghost bezels.....this one having a lovely silver/blue colour/hue to it with all the text/numbering still in place depending on lighting 😀

As you say , each to their own....

I really like it Neil. I’ve a collection of bits in my parts box that’s intended to result in something similar. The dials that I have are too good, so just on the lookout for a suitably faded one.

That dial looks really amazing. I’ve been considering the brown dial speedy of the last incarnation, but they seem quite pricey. Watch finder had one up for £5.5k

Looks like it's been tumble-dried with rocks. I appreciate that's how you wanted it to look ... but not to my taste

I swapped a brown dial into my 3570.50 in 2015. It worked out well and is reversible.

Earlier references I believe had 1159/154 and later ones 1162/173
