For the hifi people - Qobuz Additional Charge

Afternoon all, just had an email from account@account.qobuz.com saying they are going to charge me an extra 2.5% "processing fee" for my subscription unless I change my payment method, which is PayPal.

Anyone else get an email like this?

    Cheers.

Nope, but then again I pay annually. Maybe I'll face the same whenever that comes round.

What they are doing is illegal in the UK, and I have written to tell them as much.

    https://www.businesscompanion.info/e...ent-surcharges

(UK government Web site ultimately owned by the Department for Business and Trade.)

    An extract:

    Ban on surcharges

Businesses cannot impose any surcharge for using the following methods of payment:

    - consumer credit cards, debit cards or charge cards
    - similar payment methods that are not card-based (for example, mobile phone-based payment methods)
    - electronic payment services (for example, PayPal)

I have asked for a response from their legal and compliance department. Looks to me like marketing getting ahead of themselves. Astonished they have the cheek to try this on. Typical bloody French.

    Is UK legislation applicable here?

Paypal in the UK is regulated in the UK by the Financial Conduct Authority.

Maybe time to change to Tidal HIFI. I pay 9.99 a month for that.

I emailed them to complain and linked to the UK site above, and just got this. Useless....

    Hello Peter,
Thank you for your message. As a CS rep, I am unable to respond from a legal perspective. Your feedback has been forwarded to the legal department. We trust that they have already looked into the subject and will look further, thanks to the feedback we share with them.
If ever we have more information from them, we will write back.
    Very best,
    Franck

I'm half French and comments like this have no place on the forum. Please edit the post. Sharp practice is precisely that, and is hardly the exclusive preserve of any nationality.

I see what you did there - very droll. I guess I should never again accuse the French of having no sense of humour.

At the risk of sounding defensive, I still think you should remove the final comment. Having lived in Scotland, England, France and Spain, I'd suggest we'd be better off without the lazy national stereotypes and clichés. :)

Oh Stuart, relax. It's not like the French to make a big fuss over nothing.

I hear you, but if I said 'typical bloody English' on here I'm sure I'd have half the forum calling me on it. There's really no need.

One person's banter is another person's casual racism. I'm with you Stuart.

Now unable to use qobuz. I can log in to the website but not into the app.

Spoke to PayPal but they only allow disputes for 180 days FFS!

Might have to go to credit card. I've emailed qobuz asking why I can't log in.

Maybe we'll only get this when renewal is due, mine not due until November

I'm in an annual plan paying in December, and they emailed last month saying the charge would begin today. I can log into qobuz website but not the app or via my preferred Linn app.

Credit card are happy to dispute it for me
