What last night showed is that Arsenal's squad still lacks depth. The 1st XI will give anyone a game but when you put players like Havertz, Kiwior, pound shop Bernardo Silva (Vieira) in then we look bang average.

That being said I don't think we are unique in rotating players for the Carabao Cup - all the prem teams do it and West Ham rested some of their 1st teamers as well. They were just more physical, better prepared and showed more desire than us - plus they took their chances whereas we had all of the ball but did nothing with it before Arteta put some of the big guns on, by which time it was too late and we just got a consolation goal.

Was very surprised that Declan Rice got booed last night. Perhaps it was just a minority but that lad did that absolute maximum for West Ham so I felt it unfortunate that some fans lacked class in that regard , it will probably fire him up for when Arsenal play the Hammers in the league

Yep, our reward for getting past both Manchester clubs is away at Chelsea. We were never getting Port Vale or Boro. Please, please beat Liverpool.

Rubbish I'm afraid... I didn't go last night but talking to some who did it was at worst pantomime booing when he came on and after the match he went round the West Ham stands and got a really warm reception. Might have been different if we'd lost but there was no real animosity there.

This season (and much of last) West Ham have played best against teams who like to keep the ball but don't have that true cutting edge. You can defend deep against Man City or Liverpool and keep them at bay for a while but you know they'll find a way through eventually... Against Arsenal, Brighton, Chelsea etc we might only have 30% possession but when the counter attack works we'll score more than them. Have to say, Kudus was class last night, a proper player.

Could have done without Liverpool away in the next round though.

    Why so ?

Why have you never wrote your response to Ryan when simply writes ‘ always the victim’ regarding Liverpool fans ?

The difference is those players pushed for a move for money etc whereas Declan Rice committed to stay for a final season and pushed them towards a Euro trophy.

Still bugs me though how Arsenal fans booed Van Persie

    Cute answer Ryan .
Is etc code for trophies ?
And just how much did Arsenal manage to knock Deccys wages down by if money wasn’t a factor ?

    Assault lol 🤣

He was lucky not to get a yellow for catching Jorginho with his forearm but there hasn’t been other possible yellows. I will admit that he does sometimes lose his head and I don’t like that part of his game.

Your Mecca gag was genuinely funny though 🤣

Not where he kicked the ball directly at Havertz?

What would you have disallowed it for?
No foul, not offside and no evidence that the ball had gone out.

For all Arsenal's possession they didn't really create any chances of note.

I might be mistaken but I don’t think Pope had to make a single save.

Kai Havertz will be nearly 30 when his contract at Arsenal runs out - he’s only 24 now.

I just don’t understand why £65 million doesn’t buy a better striker. They could have thrown £5m Jamie Vardy’s way and he would have had plenty of game time.

I’ve always been a huge Declan Rice fan and I have to say he was immense today. What a player. He has every attribute in abundance. A bargain even at what they paid.

    It was absolutely abject refereeing.

Havertz and Guimaraes should both have been sent off. The goal should never have stood. The ref lost control of the players in the 1st half.

Arsenal barely deserved a point so it isn't sour grapes, but that refereeing performance was just shameful.

Nope. But listening to Arteta’s pathetic rant cements my view. When asked what was wrong with the decision he ducked the question akin to a Tory minister.

Arsenal failed to take the game to Newcastle and were dropping 2 points all day.

Think Liverpool will be the team to vie with City for the league this year and Arsenal will be comfortable for top 4 but will easily be 10 points adrift by the end of the season.

Correct. He waffled on about nowt, ducking the question. I asked the same question in this thread last night and the same duck appeared.

He was upset and I get that but the only disgrace here is him. One shot on our goal and a flapping keeper should be his focus. Changing his keeper was a problem that didn't exist and that's on him. Clown.

No, what Arteta said is correct it is an embarrassment. VAR should be like the checks in other sports like rugby. American football etc where it supports the referee in making the correct decision.

Not just from an Arsenal point of view. There have been decisions made wrongly where it's costing teams points. If you get beaten by a better team or the other team takes their chances better than your team then that's fine you live with the result.
If the result is decided by poor referee decisions and poor VAR decisions then as a manager you should be able to voice your views.
