Via a bike forum thread. The cheeky mare emailed me and we got chatting via email. Some odd coincidences in our lives and we met up for a bike ride. She was 29 I was 46 and somehow I knew she could change my life which needed changing. Been together 17 years now. Writing that makes me think how quick time goes.

I was sitting in the kitchen of my lonely mansion; I think it was a Dell laptop, maybe Toshiba.

Not married but with Liz after 18yrs.
Met in the pub where she tripped over my size 11's on her way to the toilet.
Somehow I got her phone number at the bar. Rang her 2 days later, "Hi, you tripped over my foot the other night, can I take you out?"
Liz, " Who are you? Oh yes I remember now. Ok then it's a date".
    Rest is history.. she's lovely.

It's about time that you married her my friend. Unless she'll demand you clear out your hi-fi of course. Then it's a 'no'.

In the girlfriends parents house, in the South of France after a bunch of people had met whilst on an Archaeological dig nearby, and decided on a weeks R and R.
Life eh, the unexpected twists and turns.

Starsky & Hutch 70’s Disco at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in Soho. May 1996.

Had been in town with a bunch of Geordie mates to watch the crucial league game against Forest at the Sports Cafe in Haymarket.

Sadly we only drew and effectively lost the league title.

    Not a bad consolation prize!

At my cousin's wedding. She was with a girl I knew and fancied but my mate was snogging her by the time I got back from the bar.

I talked to her friend who turned out to be great company and outside of the alcohol haze on a date the next weekend, a genuinely attractive and sassy young woman. Everything could have been scuppered as I got a job working away but we kept in regular contact (no pun intended). I eventually came back home and we married. 31 years later I've no regrets and would do it all again. She is undoubtedly the best thing that has ever happened to me. And no, this is not her typing this!

I met wife on ward 23 at Jimmy's hospital in Leeds. She was a student nurse.
The ward has now been re-purposed.
Our first date, the nightclub has now been shut down
Our first restaurant meal, ditto restaurant shut down.
First holiday together..... No, Corfu is still there.

But 24 years later we're still going strong

I proposed to her after 8 yrs together and the ring cost me a pretty penny.
If only I'd proposed in Yr 1, the "spend a month's salary on the diamond" would have been far cheaper then.

You asked where we met your wife.

No but I bet she was looking over your shoulder as you wrote it!

I met mine through our kids who were briefly friends at primary school before hating each other for the following decade.

Almost twenty years on and they at least tolerate each other (whilst living two hundred mikes apart!)

17 september 1996 (my wife just told me)
Birthday party of the girl who fancied my buddy.
She had lots of girl friends and I kind of had a good feeling about the night.
We started hanging out with these chicks and half a year later started going steady with swmbo
    Seems like yesterday.

Gate crashed Debbie Dakines 21st Birthday (Weybridge) in 1983. Still living with the consequences.

Initially at New Brighton Open Air Baths July 1976. Turned out we went to the same school: Oldershaw Senior Comprehensive. We didn’t know that, bumped into each other a few days after the baths. Started going out on 20th July 1976, got engaged in Stanley Park Vancouver by the totem poles in 1982 and married in April 1985. Still going strong…

Eve's Night Club in Wolves, 1983. It's been a crazy ride.
