Thread: What makes you pull the trigger?

What makes you pull the trigger?

I'm just back from an impulse purchase, I was just browsing for other gmt with that "interesting new movement from myota" when I came across Borealis and their new gmt. Not for me.
However... something popped out from their website that had it all, except the gmt.
    Size, under 40,
    colour, blue
    dial texture, not sunburst
    Case design, sort of bb58
    Date, at 6
    Awsome lume
    Affordable price

It felt as if all my dreams came true in one and bang!

    Am I too easy?

My own list of encouraging features, a couple of which are mutually exclusive:

    36mm
    No date
    Blue dial, not sunburst
    Steel bracelet
    Handwound
    Solar
    Two hander

    1. A non-specific itch for something new (when I’m bored)

    2. A fizzing sensation that refuses to leave me alone (when I find the latest watch I ‘need’)

    3. Mild disappointment and ultimately regret (once it arrives)

Sadly this, although a load of Tesco Clubcard points and the news that they were reducing their redemption value helped recently!

It' funny, I lived a real seiko moment with this Borealis because all the official pics were crap and did the watch no justice, so I looked for reviews and videos but of this specific model found less than a handful...

More than having scratched an itch I felt as if I had found the love of my life.

I still want the smiths gmt none the less. And badly!

I can certainly see why you're so taken with it - lovely design, highly functional, and a great shade of blue - very well-priced, too!

    Enjoy!

I picked up a CWC Mellor 72 and then later a CWC G10 Fatboy. The trigger was this website and a certain gent who kept posting photos of CWCs. Having spare cash certainly helps!

Vintage, a bit obscure, a bit tired, but mostly not expensive. This just arrived which ticks those boxes :)

    Agreed on all points.
Cracking look watch I think. Never looked at the brand before, but it had me perusing their website.
I was pleasantly surprised to see the size, as I just assumed it would be 42-46mm sort of range.

That is pretty much how my mind works too. Throw in a funky dial and all caution is thrown to the wind.

Lovely leopard, does it have a faceted crystal?

Let's see this collection of sad, dejected and unloved timepieces and we can be the judge of their desirability (or lack of). It may even spawn a new thread. Not 'Watches I will never sell' but more like 'Watches that would never sell'

Agreed. Funky dial seals it for me.

The Leopard has 5 faces. Nice, but simple compared to the 5216 I had on today.

Couple of other funky dials below too.

The most thinly veiled excuse of a reason.

Bang! And the cash is gone.

Looks nice! Just saw that Borealis is doing their 9075 GMT, but no idea when that ships. Sword hands, but it's 41.5mm. Nice enough though, and looks like the price isn't bad at all. Bigger than I'd like, however, I'm pretty focused on wearing stuff 40mm and under.

Agreed. I have a soft spot for Cosmotrons and an even softer spot for the unusual, and that knocks my pair into a cocked hat.

What makes you pull the trigger?

No particular preferences, but I tend to sway more to military or dive watches :

Wishing all a happy bank holiday. :)

I just bought this from an Indian seller from eBay.

It's probably going to be a horrible frankenwatch, but it was £25 and took my fancy.

You don't keep those two in the same box do you? I made that mistake and mine bred.

Lot of these Indian fakes out there with various brand names, but for £25 I guess you about got your money's worth.
