    Metaxa brandy, any experts?

Bit random I known, I've just been given a 2 litre and a 70cl bottle of this drink.
It looks old, any help would be appreciated, I can email pictures.

Reminds me of Cio brandy from Cyprus circa 1991. Tasted great whilst on holiday, not quite so good when drunk at home.

Buying a 1 litre bottle seemed a good idea at the time, I recall finishing it off at a party with a good friend /neighbour. The event had reached the last man standing stage, we were passing the bottle back and forth listening to something loud whilst leaning against the wall, my neighbour took a swig and slid down the wall.......never seen it done before and never forgotten it, he slid down the wall holding the bottle and didn’t spill a drop!

When at Uni, we used to take a 50ml syringe, inject Metaxa in the core of a watermelon, and then get the watermelon in the fridge for the next evening.

Delicious in a summer evening party/

the 12 star is accetable..Everything below that is for cooking only, or use it to clean stained surfaces.. I also remember from my old days in Greece, a shot of Metaxa was the typical treat at funerals, always combined with chocolate and almonds.

Keep twisting the twirly cap like thing right at the skinny end of the bottle until it opens, get a glass, any glass will do, pour and either sip or gulp and enjoy.

It would not be worth the postage. ‘Vintage Metaxa’ is not sought after. It’s old because it’s rats and nobody wanted to drink it.

My Greek side of the family won’t even drink it.

great for lighting barbecues , its the brandy equivalent of bells whiskey.

    just look at it (5,7,12 * ) as E10, 95 and 99 ron .

Use it for cooking and works well with in “au poivre”

generally any spirit distilled from fruit is a brandy , metaxa is distilled from grapes.

*im taking it as metaxa has been sub branded much like cognac, champagne etc etc

I've always treated the Metaxa star rating as being inversely proportional to the amount of cola you have to add to make it at the very least palatable.

On holiday in Crete last year I was given a little bottle of Raki in the hotel which I enjoyed very much.
There was a bar in the old town of Rethymnon frequented by locals where many of them sat with a bottle of it.
I ended up doing the same as it was a surprisingly enjoyable drink.
I like a brandy on holiday but have never been a fan of metaxa.
I don't think it's a bad drink, it just has a herb like taste that's not for me and I'm more than happy to have a cheap Soberano brandy in Tenerife.

try it, if its too much like petrol for your liking then use it to make a fruit flavoured brandy ( shove a load of split plums or other fruit you like in a mason jar and top it up with the mextaxa , leave it in a dark place for a few months and give it a shake once in a while , strain thru coffee filter paper and add sugar syrup to taste)

    * plums are easy to get and taste great , cherrys are also good but will need pitting.
** you can also artificially smooth any spirit it if its too harsh by adding 1 tablespoon of pure gycerine per litre and giving it a shake (this will make any spirit smooth enough to drink neat) - just the standard gycerine you can buy in most chemists.

If it tastes like petrol, pour it out FFS. It's cheap hooch that he was given for free.

    I see through your tactics.

It is a preemptive strike on the sales post, so you can pick it up for a rock bottom price on SC, lol.

Maybe the deal can be sweetened by adding a tactical something or other.
