Long story short.... I'm probably starting a new job / new country / new culture in a couple of months and my distressed brown leather Clarks desert boots that I currently wear just won't cut it (stopped wearing a suit in the UK apart from the odd occasion many moons ago).....
So, im looking for a pair of (light / dark brown, to be worn with a suit) leather (or suede but ideally leather) desert boots / chukka boots that are really smart, ideally without a crepe sole as they don't look as smart. No brogue type detailing or anything like that. I am generally anywhere between 8-9 UK (yeah I know small feet....) otherwise I'd have bought the James Bond Saunders and Saunders on Sales Corner recently. Given they are likely to be expensive and worn on a daily basis I would like to try them on first, I'm based in Preston so can get to Manchester / Liverpool / Leeds / Chester etc. quite easily, I have family in Northampton if any of the British shoemakers around there are recommended, and I could get to London if required. Don't really want to buy remote and potentially have to return but would do if there were no easy alternative. What boots do people suggest and where do you suggest I buy them?

First off, I wouldn't wear chukka boots with a suit but if you insists, Church's (if money isn't an issue) or Sanders.
Not sure about desert boots for a suit but a friend has just started a new job and bought RM Williams boots. He thinks he can wear them with a suit or with chinos.
I don't think this forum is the best place for fashion advise.

Many thanks already, not after fashion advice really, I leave following fashion to the young....... I just have to wear a suit (grey probably) and footwear has routinely been my rebellious point and I only wear boots....... I just need to smarten up my rebellious point due to the cultural environment I'm working in. Believe me, whether it fashionable or not really won't matter. I just want a well made and smart equivalent of what I wear today :)

Failing that Loake are, in my opinion, a good comprise between price and quality, from the traditional makers, especially the 1880 range. They have a store in Manchester and a nice range

I love my RM boots, but they are farmer shoes tbh. I wanted another pair, but no way I am spending £400 on them now.
He 'can' wear them, same as he 'could' wear clown shoes with a suit or chinos. Result is the same if wanting to be taken seriously.
Yes the Aus PM wore them with a suit, but its not really a sartorial part of the world in my view!
Surely his intelligence and capability will ensure he's taken seriously? You can wear a £2k suit and £500 Crockett & Jones shoes and look like a tailor's dummy. The right suit with the right Desert / Chukka boot will be smart and comfortable.

I’ve bought nice work shoes less than a handful of times but I couldn’t spend anything like that for work these days. I’m fat and old so default to penny loaders.
He’s gone to a hedge fund so can probably wear what he wants. Different rules
Pound for pound I’ve never found better quality than these guys hence I’ve currently got about 8-9 pairs. I have been buying from them for about a decade now and have been more than happy;

I've a couple of pairs of Crockett and Jones, Chelsea and Chukka boots, the quality is very good and worth a visit to the factory for seconds as many imperfections are barely noticeable.
You could get about 15 pairs of the Chatham ones for one pair of CnJ at full retail!
