Just been sorting through the wardrobes at my dads as he’s now moving int a care home and found some interesting bits.
I was aware he served as a Grenadier many moons ago, but wasn’t aware he still had a few bits of kit.
I have so far located a black & red peaked cap, along with a brass cap badge.
Also a “ blue & maroon”? Waist belt, google indicates it to be a stable belt ?
A brass bed locker plate with his name & number stamped on.
2 stiff brushes again with number stamped, could be brushes to clean the tunic?
A Grenadier Guards red shoulder badge?
And finally a white leather belt with brass buckle attached.
All items are not in bad condition, though not pristine .
Dad is aware we found them and simply said “ you keep them”.
My thoughts are to see if they can be cleaned/restored and the maybe arranged on a wooden display board, I’d like to give this to my brother as a keepsake as I will inherit dads old Fire Service keepsakes.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to who might undertake this cleaning & display task?
Many thanks, Daz.
Personally I'd leave them as they are.
I have a number of my families military bits and pieces, the medals are framed on the wall and the rest of the bits are "as found".
Cheers,
Neil.
