    Roger retires.

Just come up on my Instagram feed that Roger Federer has announced he’s retiring next week at 41. Will play in the Laver Cup then is bowing out of grand slams and ATP matches.

Can’t think of a more professional, friendly and likeable sports person (nor anyone better as a watch ambassador). Always seems very devoted to his wife had 4 children.

    What a career too!

Don't blame him, he's nothing else to achieve or prove now, so to bow out and hope he enjoys his considerable fortune.
He'll still have ties with the game he said.
He's a great ambassador for the game.

The most elegant tennis player ever IMHO.....and not a bad record; only surpassed recently by Nadal (in term of majors won). A true great who I hope thoroughly enjoys his retirement.

He's doing the right thing by going out when on top and you can't blame him for listening to his body.

My favourite tennis player who I enjoyed seeing start his career in 1998 wining junior Wimbledon. I will miss that backhand!

This piece by David Foster Wallace sums it up well - Roger Federer as Religious Experience

Probably my favourite individual sportsman of them all. As a lifelong racquet sports player and fan, I can’t really think of a more graceful and naturally gifted player. The 2008 Wimbledon final was a classic; RF eventually lost that one but it will live long in my memory.

Certainly the best all round player of the post war era.

In some ways his overall excellence can be a seen as a bit of a turn off, too slick, too nice, too consistent etc

It's funny what we want from our sports hero's!

Was a fantastic player. The year he beat Sampras was one of my favourite matches ever, still is for what it meant at the time

Djokovic has overtaken him too now on 21. Despite nadal and Djokovic winning more slams he will always be the greatest player we have ever seen and I think they would both testify to that aswell. The greatest mover and ball striker of all time

My favourite player too. Economy of movement, all round brilliance and no grunting.
