    Art glass forums?

Anyone into art glass? In particular I'm looking for the art glass equivalent of TZ-UK. Any recommendations?

Yes, I have googled for this and (a) there don't seem to be many art glass forums and (b) I'd like actual recommendations for a good forum.

I'm hoping to get some advice on a specific British glass artist.

Who and style? Cast or blowing?
You could try the contemporary glass society for info. Artists don’t tend to do forums in my experience

Andy McConnell has a Facebook page, until recently he had a shop close to me in Rye.

I love my art glass, mainly Scandinavian, Hoglund especially, but a few bits of Whitefriars and Mdina

I didn't think to include the word "blowing".

I did find some art glass forums but I was curious to find some actual recommendations. It's not always easy to find the forums that are really good on a particular subject.

I wasn't expecting the artist to take part on the forum. I could contact her directly easily enough but I'd feel that that was rather presumptuous of me considering the nature of my question.

I'm really looking for an art glass forum to take part as I do on TZ-UK: To ask a few specific questions as well as to generally learn and take part.

In this particular case, the artist is Siddy Langley. Blown glass. My specific question is: Does she always sign her work or does she sometimes do work unsigned? The reason for my question is that I have three glass baubles (christmas tree type things), unsigned, that were sold to me as being by Siddy Langley. Now I want to sell them and I have begun to wonder. So I'd like to check if she ever releases work unsigned.

Plainly, the easiest thing to do would be to ask her if the baubles are hers but, since I didn't buy them directly from her, I'd feel that this was a tad rude of me! So, asking in a knowledgeable forum, the art glass equivalent of TZ-UK, would be a good approach. :-)

My interest began with Mdina, then Phoenician and Mtarfa. Then I discovered Murano, then British art glass including Siddy Langley and Peter Layton.

Don't have to tell her you want to sell them. Just that your looking for authenticity. Finding that one forum and have someone know her work. Doesn't mean they're going to know for sure.

    Only she would really know

    Based off Google - +44 1884 277426

    Cost nothing to ask

    As I said above:

I'm not going to lie to her or insult her and, if it were me in her hypothetical position, I would not be overly impressed by someone asking me if some random glassware was mine or not. It just doesn't feel right to me (especially if it turns out they aren't by her afterall).

I have actually been in a not dissimilar situation. I wrote some specialist subcontractors payroll software a long time ago specifically for a company. Only they had a licence for it. Then I got a call from another company asking me technical support questions about the software, software for which they did not have a licence. They had been given it by the proprietor of the other company and were running it and wanted free support! No, they weren't willing to pay for a licence or even pay for the support service. I was not overly impressed. Well, the situation here is admittedly different but still sort of similar and I won't impose.

And so... Just as TZ-UK would undoubtedly be able to comment on common traits of, say, Omega, Rolex or Timefactors watches, an active British art glass forum would almost certainly be able to comment on common traits of this well known British artist's work. Additionally, British art glass is something I'd like to learn more about in general and dedicated subject matter forums are, I find, good places to learn.

Hence my very specific initial query: "In particular I'm looking for the art glass equivalent of TZ-UK. Any recommendations? [...] I'd like actual recommendations for a good forum." :-)

We can all do Google searches or think about contacting the artist directly but recommendations for a good forum based upon personal experience, in which to learn more about the subject, are much more useful (and harder to come by).

    Replied to your PM Mark.

I'm surprised she signed any (or got her assistants to).
Baubles are normally quick money makers, something cheap for studio visitors to take home. We never signed ours.

Looking at her stuff its pretty generic stuff, probably quite hard to tell her baubles apart from others.

Now you'll post a pic of a fabulous boxed set..

Thanks for your PM reply and apologies for the delay in acknowledging.

She does training courses and the baubles are the kind of thing a trainee might perhaps have done. One of her apprentices/trainees has developed a name for herself and it is common to see her work described with reference to Siddy Langley.

Yes, I rather think so. Most of her other work is quite recognisable in my opinion but these baubles don't stand out, not that they are poor in any way.
