Something a bit different. Ettore Stottsass.

Whilst perusing eBay last night with the benefit of a few beers I spotted this. It's certainly 'different'. And probably very niche. The colour is certainly on trend for the moment.

The seller also has a number of other unusual watches for sale on eBay and I think they are a dealer with the range of watches they have for sale. They are archetypal_watches (no affiliation)

    What does the team think?

    First thought - ouch!

Then on reflection - not so bad, and not a lot of money.

Tissot also reissued their sottsass designed watch - he is a legendary designer and one of the founders of the Memphis group. The tissot looks beautiful in real life. I guess this appeals to both lovers of design, who would prefer these over well known brands. I like this seiko and i notice on instagram more accounts focusing on design led watches.

Like it personally, but wouldn't buy because the printing on the outside of the crystal will be worn and battered in no time unless kept unworn/dress use only.

I quite the look of that. A bit of a nightmare if you get the crystal damaged.

I admire a bold design, but that is not my cup of Darjeeling.

Criminally ugly… not one redeeming feature! It’s not often I despise a watch but this is one of those rare occasions!

Had some time on my hands (no pun intended) and had a look for more information on Ettore Sottsass. This is a short article but references some of his Seiko and other watch company collaborations:

I doubt it's a watch I'd wear, but would love to have the full collection of the original Seikos if only for their asthetics, they'd look good mounted on the wall as a display piece.

It's a weird one - lots of thought into the crystal and bezel etc, but zero time spent on the hands and subdials, it could have been so much better, now it just looks like a totally bog-standard watch in a strange colour with an odd bezel.
