    NWA: Daniel Roth S247 (DR400)

    New watch alert!

Went to a local watch shop to pick up a 16234.... Went home with this instead!

Have always yearned for a pre-THG DR...this will do for the time being.

P.S. watch only (runs well); only irritant is a deep-ish scratch on the rear-sapphire crystal.

P.S.S. paid a hair above the typical asking price for a 16234 head only

Congratulations for the choice of this lovely piece....pre THG are quite rare to find and prices gone mad.

Bit of an oddity on the timeline...

    DR brand est 1988
    THG acquisition 1994
    Bvlgari takeover 2000

Read somewhere (iirc) the S247s were produced between 1995 - 1999 (cant validate from my part as the cert is N/A).. for now assume its a 2000s piece as it houses a Zenith 4000.

Cant seen to find a S/N anywhere.

As an aside (trying my luck here), do let me know if anyone's willing to part ways with a period-correct 18k YG buckle!

The El Primero was available in 1996 and the dial was argente'.
Steel 8k Swiss Francs, yellow gold 16K, white gold 16.8K.
One year later were introduced models with different dial variations, black, yellow, red, blue etc etc.
Let me know if you need more info...happy to help

Lovely purchase Dan - I think I would have made the same decision as yourself. Love the case shape, and a lot more interesting than any Rolex.

    Perfect.

Kicking myself for not getting an El Primero earlier on [always read that they're a bit on the fragile side - and I ride a motorcycle daily hence subject to a lot of vibration]

Picked up this Torneau PT950 (ETA 7751) a month back, also in lieu of a Datejust 16234 for slightly below c. £3k.

Key selling point is the sheer weight - but can't find much online on the watch other than a few concluded auctions.

Watch currently suffering from the typical sticky day disc that plagues 775Xs!
