This week I decided to blow the dust off my Raymond Weil that my wife bought for me a long long time ago on my 40th birthday and wear it on the first of this year's Christmas do's.
It's got me thinking of my old birthday watches so I thought I'd get them all out and wear them (well, those that still work) again.
Mum and dad bought this for me in a little jewellers in Hounslow in 1979 for my 16th. I loved it, a Seiko A158 but unfortunately no longer working.
My girlfriend treated me to this for my big 21st birthday, I knew she was a keeper then and
we married a few years later.
She bought me the RW on a trip to New York on my 40th, it was shortly after my dad passed away so it's always meant a lot me.
I told you she was a keeper! My 50th birthday gift from my wife. I've been wearing it on a NMD hook strap and its barely been off my wrist for the last few months.
I'm 60 in just over a year but I'd be happy with a pair of nice slippers...

26th birthday, July 1986. Actually a present to myself, with some money (£697) that I'd inherited.

Only two for me (so far).
My kids bought me this last year. Classic and I love it.
I bought myself this last year for my birthday.
Both keepers. :)
My wife bought me this Maurice Lacroix Cinq Aiquilles for my 50th. A lovely watch with a beautiful Croc strap.
I only discovered after a few years of use, that as my eye sight deteriorated it was very easy to mis-read the time as 4 of the 5 hands are silver! I still love it as part of my collection, and would never sell it.

My mother bought this for me in Disneyland on my 8th birthday. Can't quite pull it off anymore.
Bought this for one of mine five years ago. Seldom gets much wear these days. Really should work it in to rotation.

My wife purchased this for my 40th Birthday (I was 55 last week!)......still going strong and engraved on the back at the factory.
ps: I had to search for my first post with this pic back in 2012!
My late parents bought this for my 18th birthday or may have been my 21st. Although I wouldn’t wear it now I couldn’t throw it away either.

I have three birthday watches which are future gifts for my for sons. All Speedmasters: 1974, 1980 and 1985 consecutively. I guess they still count as birthday watches.
My two;
And just recently to mark my 60th;
My birth year, 1980 was right in the middle of the quartz crisis, so not a great deal of watches to choose from. Perhaps Speedmasters, but I prefer a 1969 one with the moon connection (one i own). Or a 1980 Maxi dial Sub, but they've gone ballistic, and never been much of a Rolex guy anyway (would still accept one though).
So these are the ones i picked - both issued in 1980, been on the hunt for 1.5 years for the chrono, but was well worth it (was a 40th birthday pressie from my wife):
I think I only have two 'birthday' watches.
This Jaquet Droz was one of my 21st birthday presents.
It's a small (34mm) solid gold case and for a long time I wore it in regular rotation (or whenever my Seiko chrono needed a new battery!), but it's too small for my taste these days.
It does, though get out for family events and I often wear it on Christmas Day.
The other one was for my 50th and I asked my wife and parents for cash towards a Longines Hydroconquest.
I'd seen it in a jeweller's window and thought it looked great, trying one on on a pre-New Year trip to York with the family.
I still wear this fairly frequently.
The metal bezel insert looks pretty retro now and I put it on a silicon strap recently to mix it up a little.
Overall, I enjoy wearing it, although it now sits amongst a dozen or so divers.
