    I was surprised that he turned up in Tina Turner's band in the '80s. Wrote some very memorable songs, including one that caused him to be questioned by the police about the Yorkshire Ripper murders. The perpetrator was thought to be from the NE at the time, and apart from having written a song 'Nice Man Jack' about the 19th century serial killer for whom the term 'ripper' was coined, John was supposed to have played some gigs not far from the scenes of the crime on the same dates.
