    Tudor Blackbay 58

So been consolidating recently due to a change in marital circumstances.

    I have went from 10 to a core 3

-Omega railmaster 2005 which lives on its bracelet and my goto work watch

    - Modded FOIS speedmaster with standard pro hands

    - Seiko SLA017 probably my favourite ever watch

Looking to add a fourth. I have had two BB58 blacks before and only reason I sold them was to replace a FOIS and as part of a fund to purchase a Seadweller.

My gut says go for another black BB58 but thinking about the blue as a change. I want a diver on bracelet so opinions please as well as other options

Budget is £3,500. PS been throught a lot of watches in the past

I didn’t love the blue. Hue of insert doesn’t match the dial. Once seen can’t be unseen and it drove me mad.

Thanks I had seen on a review that this was a plus point

Black > Blue IMO but at that price it's also worth looking at the Seamaster.

Think there is (or was) a white dial on here at a good price

    BB58 a good shout too.

This would be my suggestion, Seamaster would fit the bill.

Absolutely love my Blue, it’s my daily driver and I love it, it’s actually my second after I moved on the first missed it so much I had to get another. Will definitely be a permanent addition to the collection.

My 58 is my most worn watch. I have the black, the blue looks nice too so it’s a matter or preference. As you have the SLA017 the blue gives more variety.

I got a black BB58 last month and have just added a Doxa Sub 200. Doxa Sub wears really well.

Fair, that's something I can't get my head around either.

You could also look at the Pelagos but I think the BB58 is better value if you have the wrists for it.

Another vote for the BB58 blue. Just stunning and great value imo. I've never registered the dial/bezel being different hues. Either way it's a superb looking watch imo and is actually very versatile. I much prefer the silver text hands and markings over the gilt/black.

  16. #16
I had both the OG & blue at one time. I much preferred the blue but sadly I couldn't get the bracelet to fit me properly so sold them on.

I've been thinking about a BB58 myself, but have decided to hold off and see what comes next before making a decision.

I think it's likely we see an improved clasp at some point soon, similar to the bronze boutique edition, with on-the-fly micro-adjustment built in. Less likely, but I also hope to see a GMT version.

I think that’s a fair assumption about an improvement to the clasp but for me it wouldn’t solve the main issue - the horrible faux rivets! I wore mine for a day before it went on a NATO.

BB58 blue for me although the choice wasn’t easy. I’m on my 2nd and it’s not going anywhere.

Thanks guys. Ordered a blue BB58 from Beaverbrooks this morning. Hopefully will be delivered tomorrow. Couldn't get to an AD today so online purchase was quicker

Yea I appreciate those bother some folk. I'd prefer they weren't there, but I honestly never notice them on my black bay (the larger one).

  23. #23
I am amused by people getting bent out of shape over the faux rivets- hardly a biggie IMO.

  24. #24
Love my BB58 could easily be my only watch, if only I didn’t want more. Rivets aren’t noticeable at all on wrist

I hated the rivets initially but now they don’t bother me at all. Like what’s been said already, you don’t notice them with the watch on! Anyway enjoy the new watch OP you’ve made an excellent choice

Honestly after 10 mins on the wrist I didn’t even see the rivets.

    I have a Blue BB41 and a Black BB58.
They are both equally impressive in their own way.
The BB58 is more understated, whereas the other 41 certainly makes a statement.

  29. #29
How refreshing. Weigh up the options, buy online when decided. Arrives the next day. Tudor sounds like a business that has its marketing, distribution and production strategies all aligned perfectly :-)

Great choice, Michael. I love my BB58s.

    Hope all is well.

Everything about the watch is retro so I don't know why the rivets get people going ... what about all the other dated design references and the mechanical movement ...

  31. #31
I am sorry to say that BB58 is not a future classic.
Actually, it is a current classic. Damn close to perfect. In black. Wouldn’t change a thing about it.
Would choose it over everything else in the range.

Will any current watch be a future classic? I doubt it as no one will care much for these watches in future I fear ... millennials will have no interest in mechanical watches when they hit their 50s ...

I’d be tempted to look at the 2254 again. They are an awesome watch and as you’ll know the sword hands and lume makes it.

I'm guessing you'll love the blue BB58. I own black and blue 58s and am really happy with both. I wear the blue one more often but that is likely because it is newer and still a bit of a novelty.

FWIW I have also owned 2254.50 and a 2255.80 Seamasters, I flipped them 8 or 10 years ago. They are nice watches but I would never trade a BB58 for one.

Well there is hope then 👍 although most I know don’t wear watches and those that do are Apple.

  37. #37
Bought mine when they were first released in 2018 as it marked by 60th birthday.
Over time I have secured both the leather and NATO strap, making it a complete set. Which will be given to one of my Grandsons.
I enjoy looking at it and seeing all the wear and tear dings/marks on it.
It is my only daily watch and is fitted to either a Vanguard rubber strap or a Luff Vintage James Bond strap.
Perfect tool watch and perfect size.

How refreshing - someone started a thread about a Tudor BB58 and then actually followed through and bought one! Rare occurrence

Congrats on the new watch, great choice IMO.
