Thread: Anyone Watching the Snooker Final?

    Anyone Watching the Snooker Final?

Settled down in front of the fire with half a bottle of port I have left over to watch the final. Ain’t moving for a few hours. Should be a close one.

Great atmosphere at the crucible with a full house.

One of the highlights of my sporting year. To see the audience in attendance is just so heart warming.

Hope you've got more port for tomorrow :-)

Superb viewing, nice to see players in the final who are human, plenty of mistakes along with some world class snooker (safety and potting). Sat with the wife so I'm probably not sticking with it to the end - I'll dip in and out, catch a couple of frames per session maybe.

Difficult one to call this, I can see Murphy getting a bit annoyed about Selbys style of play and he could end up taking some risky shots, I can see Selby just edging it.

If murphy doesn't capitalise on his breaks it'd be quite difficult for him...

It's been a joy to watch Murphy this tournament, I think he's been the best player throughout. Murphy really needs to take this frame to go in 9-8 down overnight. I don't mind Selby at all, he's the master of shot selection. I admit to being a big fan of Judd Trump.

If the final had been Bingham - Murphy I'd have been watching. But I can't watch Selby (and I know he's a great player, but I detest the way he plays), so I'm giving it a miss...

Been watching Snooker since the early 1990`s.

I would have rathered Wilson / Bingham final.

Selby is a master of what he does but im not a fan

I think this is going to go all the way to a decider.

It’s anyone’s game really and Murphy is to long in the tooth to fall for Selby’s lethargic play.

Random piece of information - I played Selby the month before he won his first World Championship. Well, when I say “play” I broke off and he had a 137 total clearance !!!

Had money down on Selby before the tournament started, still in with a very good chance now he's ahead. Lost on the nod in the 2000 Guineas so we need this, ha!

I don’t get that. Selby has a style much like other players, he’s just better at it than most. He’s not going to give you anything so you have to be at your best and be better then him. That’s sport.

Shelby seems to be striding on......

    Pity

I did bet Murphy in the semi when he was 6 down to win that

Can’t see him coming back here - but gave a little at 5/2

I also think he'll win it. He's a phenomenal player with the ability to pot, play safe and grind down opponents. I personally prefer to watch more attacking and aggressive players but I'm happy watching pure talent too.

You can’t let Selby take a 3-frame lead as he will never let you chase him down.

18-15 is my bet now if he takes this frame.

Selby is world class whether he’s in front or behind, but I’m normally for the underdog and this time is no different so hope Shaun can find that little extra. This year has been exceptional for strategic games which I enjoy every bit as much as the 100+ breaks.

Pretty sure Ronnie managed to close a three frame gap last year in the semi.

I can't see Shaun doing it though, much as I'd like him to.

A good match but it would be good to see Mark make it four.

Selby is up there with Higgins for me as being an outstanding match player. Just finds ways to win and I've always enjoyed watching that side of snooker. Murphy has got such an incredible cue action, so he's always a joy to watch. Especially now he's playing much better again.

    It was a great final.

Well done Selby for getting over the line. However, I wanted Murphy to win as I find Selby dull to watch whereas Murphy is a ‘character’ and it is enjoyable to watch him play, particularly his long potting skills. Nice to see Murphy back pretty much to his best and he ‘presents’ smartly, unlike his scruffy opponent!

Haha, how was Selby scruffy? He clearly looks after himself, great hair (like myself) and a well-fitting suit.
