    50th bday gift to myself

After a lot of back and forth and considering that I have many dive watches and absolutely wanting to steer clear from the Rolex trap, I decided to buy a Portugieser.

I always wanted a Gold watch that would be not too ´loud’´. The 8 days complication was a must and I always wanted something classic but not small as I have biiiiig wrists.
This arrived this morning just before 9....
    I am in love.

If it arrived at my door I’d be in love too:) Cracking looking watch.

Wow, congrats thats an excellent incoming! Picture of the back???

One thing I like about the Portugieser is the movement is huge, so the date is in a position that aligns with the numbers as it should. Enjoy!

The back is a work of art. The 17´ movement leaves no gap. The Power Reserve inbthe back is what sold me...

I don’t normally like gold watches but that is lovely, congratulations and with it being less mainstream you’re you’re less likely to see another one in the wild, good call.

Excellent choice. The Portugieser is one of the watches that got me into this hobby. That fell by the wayside a bit with TZUK being more orientated towards other things, but perhaps some day I'll lay my grubby hands on one of those.

    Oh, and many happy returns!

    Very smart.

For my 50th I bought a Dive Watch!

I did already have a gold dress watch though...

Very very nice. I've had my eye on the steel with silver dial / blue details but this is on another level. Enjoy it!

I’m not normally a gold fan but that looks gorgeous and I’d happily wear it. The power reserve indicator on the back is a much better design than cluttering up that lovely dial.

    Cheers

Happy birthday, that is really lovely. As mentioned above I like the way the date window lines up with the numerals.

Congratulations on the big 50, and, what a way to mark it, that is a beauty.

Always had, and still do have, a hankering for a Portugieser and that particular model is glorious. Enjoy!

What model is this? Just went over to the IWC site and cant find it, can only see the automatic version.

    A very happy birthday!

That’s a beautiful watch. A lovely classy look for the larger wrist.

I hope you enjoy it for many years :)

That is superb! Well done. Both front, back and sides. I really like the execution of the PR indicator, manual wind and the classic lines and dial.

    refreshingly different!

And many happy returns on the 50th.

Totally agree on the power reserve. Every watch with a power reserve should try to do it this well!

Snap - loved the dial with the blue and red flashes. But, always concerned it would wear big (on a 6.75" wrist) so never went any further.

    Happy Birthday OP!

[And good choice. Gold works when you hit 50.]

Hello, unfortunately not offered anymore. Model 510204 with cal. 59215, Introduced for the 125th anniversary if I am correct. The automatics don’t have the right size IMHO considering the original was 42mm with 17’ movement. I have huge wrists. 49mm is a bit lost on my hams.

Surely, one of the nicest watches available from any brand and at any price.

Congratulations on getting this, and, on your big birthday.

Beautiful, that was also an alternative for me...just preferred the simpler set up of the 8 days manual...

I’ve been into gold watches for some years now and they really feel that bit more special. This is probably one of favourites from IWC.

What is the lug to lug measure across the watch please on the three hander manual? Cheers.

  49. #49
    Firstly, a belated Happy Birthday.

Secondly, these are two beautiful watches.

I would like either of them, but the only issue for me, is sadly their size, which is that the diameter is too large :-(
