Look's like a field mouse.
I'm glad you did the right thing in looking after them

Mouse? Doing some groundwork on our property and yesterday we were moving a load of earth which we dug up to extend a patio. I took a shovel full when the Mrs screams what's that? I look down and saw this scurrying accross.
I looked where I took the shovel of earth from to see a little nest with another two inside shaking and another trying to make a break for it. I quickly found a box and filled it with paper, grass and placed them in it.
My hopes of them surviving was slim as obviously mum or dad had legged it or I had buried them in barrowfulls of earth. Only thing I could do was keep them there in the box and hope mum or dad would come looking.
I had to know what would happen so I put the box by where we found them and I put one of my reolink cameras facing a hole I made in the box. That evening sure enough my phone goes off to say a movement activation had took place and sure enough mum or dad had come back.
Not content with the warm secure home I had made for them mum or dad did not like it. They proceeded to take each young one out and carry them away to a new safe home to look after them.
Anyone know exactly what it is? If you can see in some pics, he/she has the little ones in there mouth carrying them away. Glad they survived. Just hope there not in my shed nibbling my deck chairs.

That’s a heart warming ending!
In among all the crap daily news how great to get a nice story like this.
Pretty sure that’s a common or garden House Mouse :-)
Lovely story and well done OP. A quick Google turned up this which may help.

Well done!
Pretty sure it's mum, too. Dads generally don't care unless yelled at by mum: https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart...-kids-1080543/
Even the cardboard box had a smile, well done you!
Great story OP - good karma surely awaits you for your kindness to nature.

Well done Sprite.

Cheers,

Judging from the long back feet and what looks like a white belly I'd still say field mouse.
Cute as a button

For some reason I thought it was a thread about a computer mouse so just kept scrolling by. I'm so glad I opened it now. well done OP.
Cheers folks. Glad you enjoyed it, I sure did.
Yep, field mice. We have them visiting on an evening to partake of the hedgehog food we put out. Cute little things, very nervous, and boy can they shift at speed.
Well done for caring for them.
Best Regards - Peter
I'd hate to be with you when you're on your own.
Thats class
Truly excellent thread, with a heartwarming tail tale!
