Dog (or self) turd was memorable. As was the gag-inducing fawning of many members with TMS (based off a photo) - some made of more granite than others... Also Josh / TZ cycling top / side-boards. [I've still got my TZ cycling top in the drawer, must be worth a bob or two now ...].

Pity some left (Burnsey, Skyman, Soundood to name a few).

I occasionally speak to Burnsey, he is on good form.

It was a very different place when I joined in 2007 but I don't think it's TZ, it's the climate in general.

The Rolex boom of recent years has made the watch hobby more about money to more people, which does very little for me.

Plus since COVID I find the world a lot less pleasant and a lot more cynical which likely reflects here.

Yes, it was, I think, did some dodgy strap dealing as far as I know.
He did think I was a funny guy (god knows why) and sent me a free Seiko MM300 sailcloth strap once.
Got a new watch, divers watch it is, had to drown the bastard to get it!

I was here in 2009. Before adverts ruined the forum.

I also have a strap from him. He ran divestraps.com but there was a bit of a hullabaloo about the "kevlar" straps, and the seemingly applied-by-marker-pen coloured stitching. I think he was known as WingTsun before Outstretched Hands, or the other way around. Seemed to be quite oddly competitive with LTF regarding photography. Anyway, all his posts are gone now, so the turd (the photo, I mean, not the individual) is lost.

It's ad revenue that keeps the forum online. I guess if we all install ad blockers that'll be the end of it.

This is true. Personally I prefer to buy the occasional watch from Eddie, but for those who choose otherwise, complaining is not an option.

As mentioned, ad revenue keeps forums alive, but finding the right balance is key to maintaining and attracting users.

No, his posts are still here if someone wants to search for the turd (photobucket etc allowing).

Link doesn't work for me either now, maybe searches expire?

Try searching 'Member List' for outstretchedhands (no space).

That works. WingTsun's posts have gone though. Not sure which he was using during Turdgate, but I have no great desire to find the offending post - I've been trying to forget it for years :D

I joined in 2010. At that time I’d only owned one “serious” watch, a Breitling, but I’d always been interested in other watches and wanted a knowledgeable forum to join to expand my awareness. Said expansion duly took place with a simultaneous shrinking of my wallet!
I’ve enjoyed making contacts ( mostly on the vintage Seiko world ) and learnt a lot. I now have around 40 watches and still enjoy a chase!
On the whole, a great experience being a member of TZ then and now.

Joined in 2008, and WUS around the same time, when looking for a replacement for Revue Thomsen Airspeed Quartz Chrono which had been damaged by water. Ended up going through a lad more RTs and still have one now. Crusader was an early influence and roped me an a few other pilots into some market research for Sinn which led to the EZM10; another member showed me his EZM1 and last year I finally bought an EZM1.1S.
Remember the TMS disaster; also remember Geoff Dedman; aka GeoffD whose first post still heads a couple of threads still alive today. Geoff did dial and hands reluming. I bought. Fortis Lemania 5100 B-42 Cosmonaut Chrono off him and left him my Revue Thommen for reluming. Had great difficulty getting it back and had to send the police to pay him a visit before he sent it back to me, with a hair stuck to the dial. He’d also taken in work from several members who eventually, if they were lucky, got back a box of parts after some great work byTheFlyingBanana.
I’ve mostly managed to stay out of the political arguments with members which seem, sadly, to be increasing increasingly sneering, unbalanced, assertive and inclined to luxury rather than realistic views, though that is perhaps to be expected from a forum where we focus on highly discretionary luxury purchases.
Bought and sold a few watches, here, would probably have bought and sold a few cars if I’d been UK based. It’s been entertaining and educational!
