    When is a Pam380 not a Pan380?

I’m sure the Paneristi on here will know this and the answer will be stupidly simple but I can’t find it. Around 2011 the Pam380 black seal was released in a run on 2500 with xxxx/2500 on the caseback. I’ve seen watches dated 2017/2018 recently also called Pam380 but with xxxx/1000 on the caseback.

What’s the deal here? Is it a staggered run of 3500? 2 runs of a different watch? Or maybe 2 runs of the same watch but 7 yrs apart?

If someone could clear this up for me I’d greatly appreciate it.

The runs on the case back indicate per year (or more accurately per series). So xxxx/2500 in 2011 and likely in 2017 they reduced the run.

The numbers you refer to are for production in a given year. xx/2500 simply means 2500 were produced, or at least scheduled for say 2017. The same applies with xx/3500 for say 2018.

A Panerai trait for very many years.

Panerai general production models have a letter prefix to reference the year (since 1998 'A' series)
The 2011 pam380 would have been an 'N' series, and the 2017 a 'T' series etc.
As mentioned above, the number is the watch/production limit for that particular year.

Here you go, a fairly complete list of reference and production numbers:
