JLC Master Control Chronograph Calendar Watch

I got the email as well this morning, and likewise, I think it is absolutely beautiful.

Can’t believe I’m saying this, but £12,900 seems like quite good value compared to the competition.

That is quite striking, particularly the rose gold version.

JLC Master Control Chronograph Calendar Watch

I think JLC have made an excellent effort with their update to the MC range. The Chrono is nice, but personally I prefer the Calendar. The jumping date hand as between 15 and 16 so as to avoid obstructing the moonphase is quite cool.

Gorgeous! I love every part of it and would have one in a heart beat if it was in my price range.

Stunning, I think my next significant piece will be a JLC.

As I age, I find it a more interesting brand than Rolex.

This is indeed a beautiful piece, though I’d want it with a darker strap I think. Never been a fan of the lighter browns for straps.

Did anyone else look at the ultra ultra ultra thin Piaget at the bottom of the Hodinkee article? Incredible is an understatement! Beautiful thing.

These two new JLC models are just gorgeous! Wouldn’t mind either. The jumping date appeals as it just shows an attention to detail that I really like.

I don’t see how a hand as thin as a hair could obstruct anything really

Possibly the other way around. Maybe the hand would be harder to see with the moon phase in the background.

Also I think this moonphase disc is the same as they first used in the enamel dialed limited editions last year? Which is a step up from the usual one.

Both are lovely, it would be hard to choose between them. 40mm may be a tad small for me but with the narrow bezel it may wear quite large so could possibly get away with it.

Also finally 70 hour PR. The 38 of most of their lines really let them down. A good update. Well done JLC

Bang for buck JLC deliver, lovely watches. The complications are something else, price point in my view for the quality of craftsmanship is hard to beat

The Rose gold chrono is something else.

Another fan here, in the scheme of things it can be considered good value too. Don’t think any of my friends that aren’t interested in watches would understand that though 😂

After some thought, I shall be ordering this tomorrow. Helpfully, the lovely people at JLC CS are able to deliver in these odd times. I think the dial of the straight Calendar benefits from being less cluttered than the Chrono. Only slight design issue, is I prefer the spacing of the day/month windows on the Chrono, but you cannot have everything, and besides imo the moonphase window is better executed on the Calendar.

Have JLC ever put an Annual Calendar into this collection, or would the resultant thickness be too much for the case design? It's a shame because not many ACs look as good as these.

I believe only a perpetual and not an annual calendar. I don't think JLC have really used Annual Calendars (someone please correct me otherwise). The Master Control Calendar is the best you get if you don't want a QP.

It is a lovely thing, but as a practical consideration I hope the hands are more distinguishable from the dial in natural light than in these shots.

I have the Master Geographic with the same hands. To be fair they are not easy to read in bright sunlight. I think the dial of this new one has a different texture so may be better in that respect but they are unlikely to be great.

The hands have an angled profile like a pent roof, so the slightest movement tends to change what they are reflecting and make reading them easier. After a few months I stopped noticing it as a problem and it wouldn’t cause me to hesitate with this new one, nor would I want the hands changed. Up close the dial and hands on my one are superb and I’m sure this one is even better.

It took me about 6 months to notice that the hands on mine have a tiny strip of lume on them - maybe these are the same as well, but you’d need a loupe to see it.

Edit: Looking at the renders on the JLC website I can see that the hands have the same strip of lume as mine.

Any pictures of the gold watches yet?

The calendar is stunning. What a gorgeous watch.

The old one was 2nd on my want list. I think the new one is now top!

@ Skyman - when you flog yours can I be first in the queue please. It’d make up for the losses I made on the Speedmaster. 🤣 😘

Great choice and look forward to seeing the wrist shots.
If they decide to introduce a blue dial on this model I will be as decisive as you have been

I've think the calendar version is a triple calendar rather than an annual calendar which may explain the pricing, but do correct me if I am wrong
