People - just replaced the battery in wife’s Skagen watch but can’t replace the back. It came off easy enough but I don’t seem to be able to apply enough pressure with my fingers to snap it closed. Is there a technique ? or do I need to workout or do I need a tool ? if so which one.
Many thanks

A friend of mine just had a battery replaced in his Skagen by some outfit, and they used a caseback press which fitted the back...but crushed the crystal! So it may be it needs quite a bit of care to refit.
A press will indeed solve the job. These casebacks are made so that they won't pop off easily so that's why you can't press them in with your hands.
What you need is even pressure all over the case back which you can’t do with your fingers. My daughter also has a Skagen and I too couldn’t get the case back to go back on. In the end I used a thick plastic disc which was approx the same diameter as the case back and approx 1.5cm thick. Then applied pressure and it popped straight back on.
Yep, even pressure across the whole back is the key.

I placed the handle of an adjustable wrench across the case back whilst pushing down with both hands on either end, this allows you to apply enough pressure evenly.
Obviously protect your watch face and back, my wrench handle was rubber coated.
Similar to this principle:

Thanks Gents - I will have another go later and failing that I will buy a tool as she has a few watches with similar backs.
Cheers

Worth buying, I had problems fitting backs to a couple of quartz watches the family own, but the press works perfectly, every time.
Cracking the crystal would only occur if the wrong sized insert was used or the watch was very crookedly placed.
This is the one I bought.

FWIW I had one like snowman’s and it was OK, but I then got this one (from Amazon) and I found it much better, just in my opinion. Fine control is very easy, even for removing crystals etc.

I must admit I wouldn’t touch a watch with a press on back for this very reason. Why do they make watches like this, cost cutting?
