Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.
Saddened to hear this, featured in a few of my favourite films.
Gone too young. RIP.
We remember him as 'Floris' a B/W tv series. 12 episodes in 68/69 where he -as a sort of Robin Hood- returned to his family castle. From there on the story goes a different route and is totally different from the RH story.
Every man or woman over 55 here in Holland knows this:
Later, he played the leading role (together with actress Monique vd Ven) in the movie Turkish Delight after the Jan Wolkers' novel with the same title. I can safely say that it's a real X-rated/adults only movie. So is the book.

Back in the day, Ladyhawke was one of my favourite films.
A sad day.
Rest in peace.
Randomly I googled him a few days ago as I’d not seen him I’m anything for ages. Great actor. RIP.
RIP Rutger. Do Androids Dream of Electric sheep? Hopefully you will find out.
That's sad news, RIP Rutger

Yes, my wife noted the same (also <55).
Soldaat van Oranje (Soldier of Orange) tells a true story Erik, a Dutch student during WW2. Erik crosses the North Sea to England as 'Engelandvaarder' to escape the Germans. Once in the UK he becomes aid the (Dutch) Queen. She lives in exile in London. Despite his relatively safe job, he decides to go back to Holland to join the resistance. He survives the war and becomes the Queen's aid again.
One cannot name Rutger Hauer without naming Paul Verhoeven (Basic Instinct, RoboCop and others). He and Hauer both started their careers together. This evening Verhoeven calls Hauer 'my alter ego'. I think that most Dutch people see it like this as well.

“I've seen things you people wouldn't believe."
I've seen some of his more famous movies and he was great in all of them, but one that sometimes goes under the radar is 'Nighthawks' with Sylvester Stallone, Billy Dee Williams and Lindsay Wagner - a really gritty early 80s thriller in which RH was brilliant as the leader of the terrorist faction.
Great actor
Also remember him well in the Guinness adverts
Liked his work very much. Time to die. RIP.
Also great in 'Escape from Sobibor'.

Met him 20 years ago, very nice chap.
Sad to hear that he's gone.
Sadly missed - he improvised a lot of the "tears in rain" scene from Blade runner. Speaks volumes.
Anyone remember him from the Guinness adverts?

In memory of Rutger we watched Ladyhawke again last night, first time in 30 years. To be honest, it was shite.
