    Explorer II homage/style recommendations please

I really like the look of the Rolex Explorer II, especially in white or ivory.

I know there are a few homages and a few stylistically similar watches out there. I'm just wondering if any of you have experience of any of them and if you'd recommend a particular model?

    Must haves for me are:
    GMT hand
    36mm to 42mm
Steel bezel with arabic numerals to 24.

    Preferables:
    White or ivory face
    Orange GMT hand
    True GMT operation and setting

You could try to source one of these.

    Or these........

Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.

Some would say the Omega is actually a better watch than the Explorer II and well under half the price..

Not sure what your criteria for 'better' would be, but a lot of it would just be personal preference for me.

Love the Exp 2 for a bit of 'Exploring'.......

And love the Seamaster too, but blue for me I'm afraid .........

Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.

I'm going to get some shit for this again but I don't care. ;)

How can you beat Alphas? They're less than 100 euros and are a lot of fun.

I wrote an article of one (real life test on my dad's wrist for over 10 years).

They also make Explorer 16570 homages.

I' like to be able to, but I can't find one unfortunately.

I think Steinhart did one at some point - but having recently looked at their site I can't see a GMT Version with Arabic Numerals

Isnt it strange how some call a cheap homage watch "fun"!.It is really a rip off tbh isn't it with a name change.........but it's fun isn't it,like my Rolex 14060 is such fun too.

Probably good watches for the money, but some homages take homage too far in my opinion, with that I mean they are too much like the original with often the only difference being the name.

A good homage I think should have accents of the original but not be a total copy, Kemmner were very good at this.

Liking that Davosa too. Had one of their Yachtmaster-like Ternos a few years ago, which was very nice.

Plenty of Expl.II homage watches out there OP but I think you'll struggle to meet the criteria of 'true GMT operation' if you're referring to it being a 'travel' GMT rather than a 'desk' GMT i.e the hour hand is operated independently rather than the GMT hand. Half the fun is with the search though so enjoy and update us as to what you went for.

Can't speak highly enough of the Rolex Expl.II Polar, it's been daily wearer of mine for a few years now and despite some feedback about its smooth bezel, hasn't picked up that much damage in its time with me.

Not white or ivory, and I’m risking a forum beating by posting this, but:

I'm a fan of Davosas (already have their bronze diver), but I don't want a large moving bezel.

Not a white dial, but this is a reasonable homage to a 1655

Independently adjustable 24hr hand, screw-down crown and quickset date, what's not to like. Don't know if they ever made one with a white dial though.
    Best Regards - Peter

As much as i want to like the Tudor Aeronaut, the huge lugs get in the way, for me it really looks bloated.

True / travelers auto GMT and cheap do not go together - the cheapest auto I've seen is the Alpina Startimer starting at £1000 then come a few Seikos with their new 6R64 movement (hopefully this will become the basis of some interesting microbrand travelers GMT's after a few years) but none of these as what you'd call a subtle design.
Grand Seiko do a quartz true GMT Explorer 2 a-like. Omega's GMT's are travelers i believe, after that you might as well get the Explorer 2 as the price difference is negligible.
I believe Breitlings in house B04 based chrono GMT's are also of the traveler type.

All seiko GMT's are travelers so if you didn't mind quartz or kinetic that's probably the way to go.

Desk GMT's are 10 a penny from Alpha / Parnis up

What's going on with the squiggly 12 there?

In truth, I don't know much more about it myself. Bought it back in 2006 as a 1665 homage here on Sales Corner. No markings at all on the (Rolex style) screw back, brushed 40mm case with polished sides and drilled 20mm lugs. The crown is unsigned and I suspect lurking within is an Asian movement of some sort, possibly a Miyota - I haven't had reason to open the case so far as it keeps very good time.

There are a number of these on the forum and they do pop up in SC from time to time.
    Best Regards - Peter

Looks like the the 2 has been miss stamped, but for $35 plus post it's hardly noticeable on the wrist - far more obvious in a big photo.

Ok you could try Tiger concept for a GMT homage . Mr Woo is always happy to help and can answer any questions from the directions on his website.

    http://www.tiger-concept.com/1655V2-watch.html

Seems good value and lots of people here have had tiger concept at some point for some homage fun
