Thread: I absolutely loath and detest.....

  1. #1

    I absolutely loath and detest.....

'Flat splint' or 'L pin' folded metal bracelets. I hate them. I cannot abide them. I really dislike them a lot.

    That is all.

    Thank you.

And a dreadful substitute from a health pov as you are replacing protein with carbs.

    Parsnips, okra & pickled beetroot.

Funny, they're among my favourites because you don't need any specialised tools (which I don't have, obviously) to size them. They do imply folded links, but I'm kind of OK with those as well.

    Roman numerals.

    California dials.

    Onion or diamond crowns.

Skeleton dials, or part-skeletonised dials. Yes, Zenith, I'm looking at you.

Open date windows. If today is the 26th, there's a good chance that yesterday was the 25th, and tomorrow will be the 27th.

I'm sure that I can come up with a few more. Foxy will be along shortly with a rant about date windows at 4.30.

Apart from giving us numerals etc etc etc etc.....what have the Romans ever done for us

Agree with the above dislikes APART from Roman numerals, I quite like them on the right watch!

Date windows set too far from the dial edge, because the watch is too big for the movement, has to be one of my pet hates. Any watch that's black is on my list, along with black alloy wheels on cars.

Watch bracelets that don't allow a sensible degree of fine adjustment is a real pet hate, on the subject of straps any form of faux vintage/ designer scruffy gets the thumbs down, and unless you're actually in the armed forces NATO straps are a big no-no......and whilst I`m at it, brown straps with black dials looks wrong too, especially when the brown strap is one of those thick leather/scruffy/made to look old monstrosities.

On the food front, it's simple: cheese in any shape or form, can't abide the stuff. I was forced to eat cheese spread sandwiches as a kid in hospital, hated it ever since!

Have to agree on beetroot, horrible stuff. Had to buy a new chopping board as the old one became stained with beetroot juice from the Mrs’s salads.

Not necessarily - you might have a Tudor BB GMT with the dodgy date

I àgree. I used to have it once a year, it was my annual celery 😂😂

Although, it is a negative calorie food, apparently you burn up more calories eating the stuff than is in it in the first place. I'm working on a negative Big Mac then it's off to Dragons Den.

Aubergines and Courgettes are also disgusting, like eating someone else's phlegm 👎

Not loath or detest but amused by people who don't realize that there IS a point to a triple date window even if they don't find the look aesthetically pleasing.

Is it still ridiculous when sword hands completely obstruct the view of the date window? I can see why people dislike them, but they're not always without purpose. Now, if all hands were feuille, the problem would never arise.....but who wants feuille hands these days?

Take your point but I cannot recall a situation when I have encountered the issue and I really dislike the look.

What is the point? To tell you the numbers pre and post the current date? That doesn't even work at the end of five months of the year anyway!

Oh I see. Can't say this has ever been an issue on any of my watches with dates - you just angle it and can see the date...

Perhaps triple date window watches could've just been designed better so the hands don't sit so close to the dial?

The hands on my iwc do obscure the day/date for 3-4minutes every hour. I completely agree with your point here, although aesthetically I prefer the closed single date window, I did have the choice between the two!
