I think we all have a bloody good idea Raj...

...nice to speak to you again by the way.

I’ve yet to be convinced that platinum is any more difficult to work with than any other metal.
Every metal has its own idiosyncrasies when it comes to working with it but non can honestly be considered more difficult to work with than any other.
Tantalum and titanium are more difficult to machine, generating lots of heat etc. Platinum is a weird metal, apparently a bit tricky to polish too.

All materials are very different and more or less difficult to work with, in fact. Ever try turning stainless steel on a lathe ? Its much harder than with brass, for instance.

    A £20 note didn't cost 20 quid to produce … But it's still worth £20.

You are absolutely right. The caption under the picture is misleading.

No matter how often repeated, Rolex is not a charity.

Rolex S.A. is a Societe Anonyme, which is the Swiss equivalent of a public limited company. Its shares are held by the charitable Hans Wilsdorf Foundation. As such, Rolex is a private for-profit company which will pay part of its profit as a dividend to the owning foundation.

You can read about the charitable work of the Hans Wilsdorf foundation here: https://www.swissfoundations.ch/fr/f...-hans-wilsdorf

Seems like the foundation is using the money for good works. Jolly good show.

I’d love to really understand their business rationale as they spend so much on marketing and then can’t actually meet demand. Unless of course the non-sports market is where the bulk of the profit comes from.

    Cheers

The Rolex demand crisis is like Trump's border crisis: made up.

If everyone could have one, nobody would want one.

Think in terms of the story of the guy who bought the only two remaining ming vases of a particular design for a vast sum of monies . First thing he did was shatter one to make the last one priceless.
