It’s really hard to tell the time on reverse panda chronographs
More of a fact than an opinion but the Longines logo is the oldest unmodified registered trademark in the world, having been registered with the World International Property Organisation in 1889.
The winged hourglass logo appears on the caseback of all Longines watches.
AP crowns and pushers look like daft little Lego heads
Date on 5 o clock ruins the watch.
I was a sat in a busy beer and pizza place. At the next table leans over and asks, is that a PRX? He cared. And got to say, the chat you get from someone who recognises a PRX is better than the chat you get from someone who can only recognise a Rolex.
Not sure what wealth has to do with it or golf for that matter.
They are probably the 2 most famous brands out there so when people see what they perceive to be an expensive watch they are generally the brands that come to mind. A simple “No it’s whatever brand” is usually enough rather than the WIS trading places style explanation as to why while it is not it’s just as good if not better.
About as interesting as people who drone on about cars to people who have no interest in cars.

Modern enamel dials are boring and overpriced.
Rolex doesn’t make luxury watches. They are good but they are not luxury.
Grand Seiko produces superior watches to Rolex.
a touch of sarcasm I believe. Poor people can't afford Omega or Rolex, don't play golf and as a rule of thumb, golf club members are a bunch of snobs. Before anyone has a mild panic attack about that last comment, how many other sports clubs only let you join after being referred by a current member - the it's not what you know you know and how you play, more who you know scenario.
I meant an actual military (eg issued watch or regimental special edition) as I clarified in a later post as many watches designs are derived from military issue pieces.
But glad to know I'm living rent-free in your head anyway
Ploprof. They look like they been cut out of a sheet of plate steel on a bandsaw. By Stevie Wonder.
Tudor's price point in relation to other Swiss brands is too low. They'd probably increase sales of units sold if their price point was the same as Omega as many luxury buyers are put off by something being perceived as a 'bargain'.
Stainless Steel is worthless.
I’ve read so many comments this week about how a plastic watch is a rip off at £300+ yet 316 stainless steel is worth less than £2 per kilo meaning the amount used in a watch (150g approx) is valued at 30p.
That’s the biggest marketing con in watchmaking, and we’ve AP to thank for getting that ball rolling.
The Rolex Explorer should just be a dial option under the Oyster Perpetual range. It bares no similarities with the Explorer II and much closer to the OP range in style and size.
The Explorer is the most boring Rolex.
All chronographs are poorly designed except for centre minute & second ones. If they had been invented first, people would look at the 'new' 30min unintuitive scale, too small to read subdialled chronographs as if you were introducing the horse to replace the car.
Legibility is overrated. Most of the time, when I look down at my watch, I have no need to know what the time is.
Ditto for accuracy.
A lot of people in this world would be just as happy buying and selling vintage toenails, as long as they were reassuringly expensive.
I prefer snowflake hands to mercedes hands
mechanical watches are my grab and go watches.
Serial accumulators don't exist.
