1979 CWC hand wind V prs-53 hand wind

this little beauty just arrived, never had one in the army didnt even see one...

i couldnt squeeze my 20mm nato on but thankfully hadnt sold all these

black leather straps the 18mm splays out and is a super fit.

    i like the look.. 8)

    lovely clear dial

everyone one should have a handwind in the collection for sundays and lazy days..

how long will the cwc take to settle down and what accuracy would be accepable[i dont want to take the back of as i cant press them back on]?

i thought you might like to see a comparison pic similar but very different...

    A classic issued watch.

These are front loaders, so there is no back to take off. Should be capable of decent accuracy. If it's too far out for you, best bet is off for a service.

    Cheers

    I know this isn't strictly an A v B thread, but that PRS-53 is a beautiful watch.

front loader? how do you take it apart then? :?

good job i didnt try to take the back off....

the glass on this is remarkabley scratch free for a old watch.

have to agree the 53 is lovely, one of my favourites...

great little watch you have there...I have the same one :) here it is in good company.

when I took the front off mine to restore it I had to gently prise the plastic up around with a tiny screwdriver !! im sure there must be a special tool for this though.

The movement still wont come out though. to get the crown and stem out I had to then take off the hands and then again gently prise the face from the movement pulling gently to get the face feet from the movement. It was a bit of a fiddle to be honest but well worth it. Mine is now in ace nick and runs great keeping superb time.

if you do get the back off you find a cracking little movement. Mine case is now brushed and not shiny as in the second pic.

Mines the same year as yours too :)

Not sure why you cant get the 20mm Nato to fit ? Mine go on ok. quite like it on the bund style too :)

    cheers all

    Carl

I used to have a desire for one of those in the early days of the madness but never got one. :( However your thread has made me decide to get my PRS5 out for a Sunday treat! :)

Lovely watches, those. I'd be pretty happy to have one in that condition.
