Thread: New Autavia reissues

  1. #1

    New Autavia reissues

I know one of these has already been mentioned elsewhere but as a huge Autavia fan I thought these deserved their own post.

I know not all Heuer enthusiasts will be a fan but I think these are the nicest Auatavia reissues yet.

They have the same case / bezel as the standard "Rindt" reissue but some how these look better proportioned.

The tachymeter scale on the Orange Boy fills the bezel so it looks less bulbous and the 2 sub dials of the "Viceroy" also complements the bezel better.

Of course the originals are still better proportioned but I think these are a good effort.

It's just a shame they are limited editions and very expensive as a result.

I really like the Viceroy re-edition but you can pick up a vintage one for about half that. US only too.

They're still too big, inelegant and chunky imo. Zero finesse

Wow! So much anger. Are we not allowed to have differing opinions then?

Most ‘reissues’ are oversized and clumsy-looking compared to the originals, usually they lack finesse and don’t capture the elegance that forms much of the appeal with vintage watches. I find this off-putting, I can see why they don’t keep the dimensions as close as possible and if that doesn’t suit the modern trend for big watches that’s tough.

Presumably this makes me an over-opinionated watch snob too.

I want to like them but whenever I see one they're too big and clunky. I'd spend that kind of money on a vintage one interested.

I wàs quite interested but I just can't quite bring myself to like them enough. For instance, the bezel is too wide and when you compare them to vintage examples they just don't look right.

Just some guy from Watford throwing faeces around, he'll not be around much. Well, he'll hang around for a while to prove how he won't be bullied out but then he'll get bored and sign up somewhere else.

If the normal pattern is to be followed he can’t leave until he tells someone to “jog on”. Maybe it’s my turn :-)

Don’t have anything against an Autavia - if it was 39mm, no date and a third of the price I’d be quite interested. Seems quite a common comment on this series.

I agree which is why I like the 1999 Carrera re-issue that I have, it is virtually identical to the original.

There are always a number of get togethers every year - which strangely enough tend to be very friendly and fun events by most reports.

As for the Orange version, I’m not fussed on the Hodinkee tie in, but I think the watch looks bloody lovely 😊

Just revisiting some of your 'friendly', sober posts. The first one was telling and it all went downhill from there.

Anyway, I haven't got time to argue with a knob on the internet so like I say, enjoy the ride here. I suspect it will be a rocky one.

I joined this Forum because it seemed on the surface to be populated by genuine watch enthusiasts and knowledgeable people who were polite and inciteful, sometimes opinionated..which is good.
But asking for fights, throwing your weight around and trashing a thread are none of the reasons to join ..it would be good if all involved in this silly spat refrained from raising the temperature further and just Jog on to another topic....IMHO

This, although they're not catering for the likes of us.

I have to say, I do quite like the 'viceroy' version aesthetically, but the case is all wrong.

For that sort of money, you'd find an original one plus something modern that's nice too.

I wonder how much commission JS gets

    That’s how to do a re-issue.

It should be true to the original.

I like the watch and appreciate a re-issue of a previous watch from yesteryear. I was very happy when Seiko brought out the Turtle as i had been contemplating the original but now i own what i was hankering over but it is new, fantastic.

The same with this re-issue you can own the original with a new reliable movement which is great.

My only issue is i prefer the original and this version is close, very close. I just wish they had made it identical. After all if you are going to go for it why not just re-issue the same? Now that would have been perfect for me.

I’m sure. Most of us are.

It’s only a forum talking about watches and expressing opinions - I wouldn’t get bent out of shape over it. Even if secretly I’m planning world domination and passing law to make it illegal for some people to wear watches

Have a good weekend, one and all.
It's just a matter of time...
