    Shortening an Omega nato

I would appreciate some advice due to the cost of these.

I need to shorten the nato by about an inch or so.

What is the best technique ?

Clamp the strap between 2 £1 coins in a vice or mole grips, heat a craft knife over a candle for 20 secs then cut out in one single slice.

Suggestion...link. You could use 2p coins for their larger radius as that might better match the original shape.

    Try YouTube as well...

I was going to post a thread about this because I have perfected the technique.

I cut the strap as detailed above and then heat up the back of a teaspoon and hold it with gloves. Then place said spoon on strap and press hard and rock over the end of the strap in a hard flat surface to melt the last few lines of material and remove any rough burrs of melted plastic.

I’ll post some pics later maybe in a new thread.

I did experiment with cutting NATO's, but I find it much neater to fold the end back under the keeper, so the loose end is sandwiched between inner and outer layer of strap.

I tend to fold a NATO but I favour the RAF style which I do cut as the end is hidden inside the huge fabric keeper. They can both be a bit fiddly to fold.

    I’ll post that thread later!

    Shortening an Omega nato

Don’t think I’d take a blade or a red hot spoon to a £110 nato.

Edit prob more than 110 actually

Quite pleased with the result. Not perfect but more than good enough. Thanks for the help everyone. The 2p trick with a set of mole grips worked really well !
