What constitutes Lego appears to have changed since I was a child. I thought they’d sold out when they started making wheels.

Anyway, why do Americans call Lego, Legos?

    Better pictures here https://www.lego.com/en-gb/themes/cr...rtin-db5-10262.

Sets are getting less and less like 'Lego'.

Looks even worse than the Mini Cooper. It loses far too much of the beautiful lines for me.
It's just a matter of time...

Have to agree, it's very Land Rover Series 1

I'm really disappointed by this, it doesn't look right.

I know it's in Lego but they just haven't captured the shape at all, it's clumsy.

Super interesting fact : Lego are the world's largest manufacturer of tyres.

    Beetle was decent
    F40, the same.
    VW camper, also good.
I even liked the Mini and there were some very clever solitons.

    However, the Aston is awful.

    Thumbs up

I've got the original Lego 'Taj Mahal' - at least that still looks like Lego (sort of) - despite 5,500 small pieces.

    This DB5 is horrible!! :(

  15. #15
That looks dreadful. I'm sure it's very clever but it looks like a bad Chinese copy of a DB5. What were they thinking?

I like it and I've bought one to go with F40, Caterham, Delorean and Ecto 1.

The kid is 6 and loves lego so it's a nice way for us to spend a few hours together

    F40 was excellent.
Caterham excellent too (I bought one for my brother who used to work with them and he loves it).
    Beetle was OK.
    VW camper was OK too.
The Mini looks more like a Mini Moke.

The Aston is odd - although I am impressed how they've managed to merge a Land Rover and an Aston into one - it's like Lego's modern day take on an SUV.

Surprisingly poor job from Lego I feel.

    What happened to lego?

The idea was simple building blocks, a few specialist pieces like tyres, windows etc. and you use your imagination to build whatever you like.

These design specific kits miss the point of lego in my opinion. And, they always look naff compared to either a decent die-cast (for the lazy / clumsy) or air-fix / modelling kits

Anyway, that DB5 is awful, wing mounted machine guns? Too square and F-ing how much? £129.99 for lego!?

It has wing mounted machine guns, changing number plates, a hidden phone, hidden radar display, rear bullet proof shield, tyre shredders and a working ejector seat. All features of the DB5 in Goldfinger.

    It's lego ffs.

If i went into a car showroom and bought a car and when it was delivered it turned out looking like it was made from lego, i would be upset.

But if i was a grown man who bought a lego kit representing a car that turned out to look like it was actually made of lego, and not an actual car, then i would probably just think to myself 'ooh, it's made from lego'
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.

I was in the Leicester Square Lego store yesterday with my 12 year old son, who is a complete Lego nut BTW and I wasn't that taken by the Aston - nor was he; said that they made all the little features i.e. revolving number plates, ejector seat, machine guns etc. to make up for the rather questionable looks!

They had loads of these models in-store on both floors. The place was packed and an outsider might have thought that they were giving them away!!

It's a hell of a lot better a likeness than the GT3RS from a couple of years ago!

I think you need to watch Goldfinger again

    Front Wing Machine Guns

Nearing the end of Bond's chase through Auric Enterprises, he drives into another dead end, and is tricked by a mirror at the end of his path. Seeing his own headlights in the mirror, he thinks it is another car, and engages his front wing machine guns to shoot at them.

The guns in the film are beneath the headlights not on top of the wings

Due to technical issues I can understand why Lego have placed them on top

The machine guns are behind the side lights on the Lego model. The things on the top of the wings are the wing mirrors. When you pull the gear lever back, the side lights rotate downwards and the machine guns flip out.

Take a look at the animations here:

That is shocking, if Lego cannot make a half decent job (and looking at these pictures, they can’t) then they should have left well alone. Same goes for the Porsche above.

It's to be hoped if they continue to make the Bond cars that they do a decent job of Roger's underwater Lotus Esprit from The Spy Who Loved Me.

I reckon in Lego you could (if it were done properly) make a superb job of that, as the shape would maybe lend itself well to it.

The more I look at that Aston the worse it is, whoever came up with that should be potted !!

The BTTF DeLorean worked well enough even in a much smaller format, so the Esprit could be a good shout.

There are two versions each with different "modes" too, so plenty to go at. I'd put money on the white submarine version being a hit if they released it.
