Mine is with Hiscox and I don’t have to list any under £15k.

Mine are on the house insurance too. I only have to list those over £1,500 so just my Speedmaster ‘57 . All risks even outside the house. £6k of insurance cost me about 30 quid.

I use TH March. Blanket cover up to £10K a piece.
Remember though, it's not always the cost of cover that's important. I've heard TH March don't tend to play silly buggers when it comes to claiming so that's why I use them.

Another one with M&S Premium. Cheapest quote by some distance, house and contents, unlimited contents cover, single items up to £15k outside the house, does me fine. Just bought a safe of evilbay as well, not actually a condition of the insurers, but more peace of mind for myself. Its a Chubb Zeta 35, insurance approved up to £60k of jewellery etc, weighs 70 kilo, so you cant run off with it easily. Its brand new and I paid £250, cheapest list is £612 that I can find. Like I say, its more for my own peace of mind.

I’ve got house and contents insurance with Hastings, underwritten by Axa.

Their overall limits seem fairly generous, and I only need to declare items worth over £5k explicitly.

In the past with other major insurers the bump for adding jewellery and watches has been a pretty minor additional premium, although I imagine it can be a bit of a postcode lottery.

M+S, no need for individual valuations which can add up to quite a bit every year if needed.

Axa home and contents insurance. Any one valuable item up to 15k (30k total max I think out of the house ) and no valuatuon needed. And less than my old insurance!

I tried them, but the limit we only £15k. In the end went with M&S, but underwriter was Axa and I think my limit is 25k out of the house, I did have to up the limit after I got the policy.

I think M&S have changed their underwriter now, so it may be different.

I think any advice needs to take account of collection and individual item values. That said, M&S Premium looks good, and if you exceed their limits then Hiscox provides an excellent alternative (I've actually just left Hiscox and went to a broker called Highworth Insurance - they specialise in placing home contents policies with high valuables cover).

None of these options generally require every item in a collection to be specified but all have limits for individual item cover unless specified.

Be aware that both safe and alarm clauses are common once you exceed valuables cover of £50k and/or once you declare single items over £15k. The Policy that Highworth placed only requires items over £50k to be specified; that's obviously far higher than most of us would need, but it does provide a lot more flexibility for the more common "high end" watches the likes of which we see on SC regularly.

Previously I have used Hiscox and John Lewis, who had a special policy for “High Risk” items. Which covered items over £20,000 each.
But now everything is through my contents insurance with the Halifax. Which I believe will go up to a ceiling of £20,000 for a single item or a combination.

My AXA contents insures for 15k per item max and total £30k while away from home - I just checked my schedule. Do PM if anyone wants more information. Cheers all. Martyn.

I bought a SMPc 300M today and added it on to my home policy with LV for the full retail price, £2,920 - all risks so covered away from home. Only 9 months as the policy runs to mid-April next year. Cost me an extra £10.80.

    M&S Premium cover example below:

    Included in your quote
£81.74 Premier Contents cover(including accidental damage)
£232.48 Contents away from home cover (£15,000)
Included Contents protected no claim discount

I'll be very honest, this is exactly what AXA are requoting me this year. Identical cover, including combined limit of £15,000 away from home. Voluntary excess £0, compulsory £100. Total excess £100
