    Natolicious?

I enjoy wearing a watch on a Nato, especially in warm weather, and have built up a decent collection. Like many others on this forum, I often like to link a colour on the strap with a colour present in the watch; however, I also find this limiting at times and have got to the point where I'd quite like a simple 'black and white' watch to use as the watch head that works with any Nato. Yep, I know this is sounding more Gok Wan than grab n go!

Previously I had a 14060, head only, which was perfect for this but that was many years back and given the current price of them, it is no longer a cost effective foil for a care free watch. After doing a fair amount of browsing, I've ear marked the Sinn 856 as the ideal candidate but would like to know if anyone else has any other watch suggestions?

Must be no more than £1k used and must be black dial, white hands and markers, with no other colour present. Must also be auto and not quartz... may entertain hand wound at a push but it wouldn't be my first choice.

So, any other suggestions for the ideal watch to wear with any Nato? Or is the ideal solution?

I believe they have a red seconds hand, so they break the black and white only rule.

Unless I’m out of touch, I don’t think they are £1k?

Also, I have a TinTin and Mitsukoshi dial Speedy, so would probably fancy something different.

Appreciate the suggestions but I really am stuck on budget, only black and white and ideally auto.

I’m not picky, I would also accept a Rolex Sub, head only, also for £1k...

Sinn 556 I or A for a slight variation on the theme?
Other than that, I suspect a Damasko may suit.

I agree, they are the other logical choice and I had looked at them.

Damasko 36 and 38 have coloured seconds hand. Only the white dial is all black but I’d rather not have a white dial.

I really like the DS30 but at 39mm, it is just a little too small for me and no 39mm watch has ever lasted in my collection.

    Fair points.
I find the 556 wears quite large for its size (no difference to the 856 I tried on recently really - but would be interesting to try back to back).
It’s a watch I wanted for ages and have rarely worn, it’s been languishing for some months now. I envisaged it as a ‘keeper’, what a notion!

2254 is the right watch, sadly 1000£ is the wrong budget.
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.

Dave, I know you're a maverick, walking the plains of WISdom, dispensing advice and quick draw wit in equal measure BUT there is no lawbreaking on this thread!

The 2254 has a red on the seconds hand, iirc.

Funnily enough, I never considered a modern Omega, bar a Speedmaster. Perhaps I should follow your rebellious lead and consider upping my budget...

I'm going to avoid the Seiko route because of my 6138 & modern turtle; want something different.

*I believe I am now over the rejection from the last curry cancellation; therefore, I may extend the olive branch... or should that be poppadom?

Seriously bruv, i would consider spending 500 more and get a new gasgas scramble. Absolutely gorgeous in the flesh. Grey is the new black.

38mm and 18mm Nato kill it for me. I have bought <40mm cases in the past but I always find they wear too small. I also find 18mm Natos not to my liking.

The 6B would work 40.9 case width and 20mm lugs.

I noted in your 'wtd' ad that you may up your budget!...as such, I'd suggest a Pelagos, I think they goe well with a variety of straps. Sorry, not 20mm though.

This cost me not significantly more than your budget. Of course second hand but not a single scratch on it thanks to the Damasko made ice hardened case. (Not Tegimented, so no even dings here)
40mm diameter, 20mm lug space. Looks good on NATO. What’s not to like?

I can’t recommend the omega NATO’s enough. Yes they are a daft price but honestly nothing comes close to the quality of them.

I’ve tried virtually every nato in the 10 - 30 quid bracket and they are horrible in comparison.

The omegas are steep but can’t be matched in my opinion.
