Cartier Santos for a special occasion

I fancy treating myself to something new for a special occasion and seeing a my partner has Santos Galbee I fancy the new Santos for myself. Anyone have one?

I know these can take a bath in respect of residuals so what could I expect to get one new for new ? I would go for the mid size and its RRP is £5350.

Anyone know what a realistic discount would be or better still an AD where they can get me a decent discount.

    Thanks in advance.

    Fred

Hi Fredamens, does it need to be on bracelet or would croc do?

I like these; they show a pleasing streak of individuality, are what they are, and don’t seem to have become tainted with “Instagram cool” unlike many other archetypal men’s watch styles.

    Go for it!

I really like these. I tried one on last week and was surprised at how much I liked it... I found it very comfortable too.

I've no idea what discount you could look for though. Talking about Instagram, I saw a post of the famous footballer, Icardi, wearing one of these. It's not surprising though, it looks great.

I think the only negatives are the distance between crown and crown guards, and blue hands.

I should have mentioned I tried the stainless steel bracelet when I said it was comfortable

I agree I think they are liked, what I don’t like is the potential drop in value once purchased - hence why I would like a discount or to take one used, albeit a bit soon for that. I appreciate and know watches depreciate but hopefully something off from the start will help.

I have found somewhere to get one 10% off but I was hoping for more.

    Hopefully the community can help.

    Cheers Fred

I think you get both bracelet and the pretty hermesesque strap, they have the fancy new quickstrap change mechanism and personally I can't decide if it looks better on leather or steel.

I have tried it on and they both look great. It also has a quick bracelet adjustment, removing links is a doddle.

I also tried one of these on the other day. The mid size is lovely. Very much thinking about it for later in the year.

These wear well on the croc straps too. Slightly small for my personal tastes on my 7.25-7.5 wrist but make a refreshing and classic change to big hunks of diver steel.

The new santos has caught my eye too. I'll have to try one out. Really like the interchangeable strap.

    Thanks Simon
I saw that it’s from The Watch Source. I asked them if they could do more than 10% and they said unfortunately not.

I will give this a little bump. Anyone know an AD that would provide a decent discount?

    Hi all

Going to give this one last bump. I want to buy one and the best I can see (the watch source) is 10%.

Any one know where I can get a better discount? I would have thought 20% was more likely or an I going crazy.

    Thanks all

This is the Cartier Santos Dumont. The rest are derived from it. Cartier identify it as the original design by calling it 'Collection Privee'. Here it's in platinum.

Only one I’d buy - I think it has an F Piguet derived movement of memory serves.

Now that could be classed as a dress watch and rightly so!
    Thanks for sharing!

Sorry for the hijack, but I think I’ve decided to go with a Santos as well. Whilst I really like the new strap change feature, I can’t help but think that the new case design with the slender shoulder profile and smaller indices, make it look too dressy.

I prefer the older version with the black bordered white hands which looked altogether more ‘butch’, giving the whole watch a more versatile appeal to my eyes.

So I’m going to try and find a dealer with older stock. I don’t care for the bracelet either... too many screws for me.

I don’t understand the model numbers though. I want the largest ss model, non chrono. So if anyone knows which model no. that is, I’d be grateful for the info.

I have a tank francaise which I never wear. To be fair, 3 kids under 7 means I don't get out much so no real need for a dress watch, and I now have a 231 that covers that base. Still a nice timepiece tho.

I have the older style Santos 100 on my wish list. Love the history & something that can be causal but semi smart. Unsure whether the 38mm would be the correct size, I’m hoping it is, as the XL looks huge in picture. Second hand prices seem to be holding firm & not many turning up. Doubt it will be until next summer for me.

I think this is my 4th Santos, Got my first one back in the mid 90's, I definitely prefer this incarnation to the current one.

That’s stunning, is it the mid size one or full size?

    Bump for the Santos.
I tried on both the midsize and large today .
Really liked the midsize on the bracelet, the large certainly has more heft and also date .
Best I could do was £4565 and £4990 respectively.

    Another vote for the santos
I tried on the latest incarnation and it kinda looked too dressy for me, even the dark blue dial just didn't hit the spot. However I tried on the old 100xl chrono and it really looked great. A big lump of steel is not to everyone's taste but it really has a great wow factor.
