    Car mats

Am I the only person who manages to go through the driver mat whilst the other 3 are like new?
Makes me wonder why I have to replace all 4 each time. You’d think someone would sell singles or am I missing something?

    Cheers,
    Adam.

This is a real issue and very annoying. Really they should sell sets with 4 extra driver's mats in so you can replace them.

This is quite simple to deal with.

Simply make sure you always drive your car fully laden with passengers. That way, they'll all wear out.

    You're welcome :)

Might sound mad but a friend of mine used to say the same
In particular his Mrs heel caused wear

Now.... ready? He gets a carpet sample that matches and just puts 3m tape on the back where the heel wear part goes

Me too.... I laughed but the difference is clear to see

    Bizarre but believable when seen

Genuine Volvo mats FTW... I've done 30000 miles in my XC90 and the mats all still look brand new!

I bought some fitted mats from eBay and they had a heel pad on the drivers side. Looking at the wear it was a sensible addition.

You can get individual drivers mats for some Honda's. I have bought a set of gen carpet mats for my last car (G9 civic) and found the buying experience to be fine. I didn't keep the car long enough to significantly wear the mats so can't comment on the longevity of them.

    New Car Mats required

Not wanting to start a new thread, need to buy some car mats for the other halfs new car.

Apart from OEM ones from the dealer - can anyone recommend an online shop for purchase?

OEM all the way. Aside from one brand on the S2000 nothing fits as well.

I used to wear through them in a year or so, then stopped driving in ‘proper shoes’ with a heel & moved to loafers / trainers.

Much more comfortable to drive in & my sharp heel no longer wears through the mat in stupid time. Win-win!

I use the old worn out mat, neatly cut out a square, sometimes a pentagon, hexagon if I’m feeling particularly adventurous and then stick one to each of the back/heel of all of my shoes. Winner, winner, chicken dinner, no more glazed over heel and the mats now last a lifetime.

Would post some pics of my mat bejazzled shoes but I’ll be damned if I can figure out how.

Same here. I've owned some cars for years on end and not had this problem. Maybe that I don't drive in proper shoes, I dunno..

    Same problem here.

I buy sets where the drivers mat has a double thickness panel for the heel. They still wear out each year (but I do lots of outdoorsy stuff so they get muddy etc).

I simply buy cheap £20-30 sets off eBay / Amazon and replace yearly. They look like perfect OEM mats when new, and I suspect don’t age much worse, but if there’s a disaster they’re cheap enough to just Chuck away and replace.

Even these cheap ones have the double heel panel and plastic holes for securing them down.

I got fitted mats half price from Euro Car Parts last month.

Not too savvy businesswise though. I'd pay their price just for the driver's mat.

Is it normal these days for new cars to come without a set of car mats? My current car didn’t but I bought a set off eBay which have lasted for 3 years. Albeit with a heel hole in the drivers mat.

Apologies if my comment came across wrong; it was a flippant remark assisted by Christmas cheer. I meant that they could be selling a single mat at the same price, and save themselves the cost of the other three.

A gf of mine had the same prob - I just cut an old rubber mat I had - made a cardboard template of the area concerned and then glued it to her proper mat.
Both of us were surprised at how good it looked tbh and it’s lasted two years with another “pad” available if needed

Yes it’s a bit blue Peter but the other mats are like new!
I have an over mat in my i3 which flexes across the complete front of the foot wells - it’s like a hard vinyl and works v v well

My first set lasted 2 cars from 05 till earlier this year over circa 60k, new set from Honda just set me back £150! double sided tape holding a sample mat as a heel wear area now.
It would have possible to ask my local carpet seller to have mats made up to pattern but Covid stopped the usual person making these up.

I’ve got a pair of genuine Honda rubber mats for the winter and Honda carpet ones for the summer my mrs got some Ford mats thrown in for her fiesta I thought they were from Poundland they were that thin and cheap but they were the real thing not impressed, I remember buying some genuine Peugeot 406 mats 20 years ago and they seemed twice as thick as the modern ones

I always get a full set (including for the boot) of rubber mats from CarMats4U. They do a good range of colours and trims, fit the original fixing points well and have always outlasted my ownership of the cars. And no worries about getting into the car with wet or muddy shoes.

IIRC rubber mats are more expensive, and probably for good reason as they last much longer, don't retain smells and are easier to clean.

I buy "thick" 5mm sets on Ebay for £20 and keep the original mats in the garage until its time to sell the car. I also think boot liners are well worth their cost

They do a huge range of different materials and thicknesses, and you can customise the colour of the mats, the trim and even the stitching on some mats, as well as get various logos included, so the price differs depending on what you order.

For my GT86, I got 5 mats (2 front, 2 rear, 1 boot) in their thickest black rubber with a red trim and it cost £70.79.

For the MX-5, I just got front mats (black with beige trim) - the car came with a rubber boot mat - and they cost £26.99.

For the 335i, they didn't have a template for the E93 convertible boot, so they got me to send them a paper template and made me a custom one (again, black with beige trim). Total cost was £75.95 for the boot mat and four interior mats.

£19 seems a bit cheap, but lots of options as you say

If you to spend more, give me £20 and then buy the £19 mats so you’ll have more expensive ones
