Vintage Doxa (non diver) any experts out there?

    Hi folks,

I saw this pop up online and thought it looked cool and interesting. The price was good enough to take a slight punt on it as I know absolutely nothing about Doxa or vintage Doxa other than they make some cool Divers.

This watch came from a “Dealer” who I tend to trust but I just thought I would post some pics up incase any one is interested and incase there are any Doxa experts out there that can pass comment on the watch.

Its 36mm so wears very nicely, case is very crisp and seems unpolished, the auto bumper movement winds very smoothly which backs up the sellers claims its been serviced recently and the dial and markers have a very nice patina which makes the watch in my opinion.

To some out there no doubt it will look like a knackered old watch but to me it has a lot of charm and I’ve enjoyed wearing it thus far.

    Cheers!

That's a very nice watch you have there, on a great strap. I have a friend who loves vintage Doxa, I'll show him yours and watch him slaver...

Very nice, from a great era of watchmaking IMHO. Still at a time when companies would still try to design their own movements, even if they weren’t haute horologie, and even if they shared parts or designs with others.

Doxa were a very interesting company, which I researched a bit after a purchase a while ago. If you look up Georges Ducommun, the founder, you will see he was quite instrumental in setting up the modern Swiss watch industry, with connections to a number of other familiar names in the early 20th Century. The modern business is essentially a different company.

I’ve restricted myself to buying examples from one brand now otherwise I’d be tempted to pick up every watch I saw like yours :).

Awesome watch. From font and style it is from end of 50ies. Do you have any pictures of movement?

More pics. It is a bumper movement but I’ll be honest and say I cant feel the bumper as some people mention you can.

According to what I can find online the 49 at the beginning of the serial means it was made in 1949.
