Is your Watch worth more than your car ?

My car is on a business lease so I have no equity in it.

My wife owns a Golf that is currently probably worth £7.5k. This is more than any individual watch in my collection is worth, but less then the value of my whole collection.

I do not intend to make my wife aware of this fact...

    My daily runner - yes.

    My weekend runner - no.

My watches (nine) are worth more than the three cars in our household.

At the moment yes, but once I shortly pay off the car finance with the balloon payment, no. I suspect quite a few cars might be on a PCP or other finance arrangement. In another 10 years my car may well be scrap but the watches should still be going (with some value left).

    House

To separate the men from the boys why don’t we ask, who’s watch is worth more than their house!

I concur, I paid £400 for my 2003 Ford Focus three years back, 75,000 on the clock, so apart from some of my G-Shocks, most of my collection is more expensive than my car.

For me a car is little more than a metal box with a tyre in each corner, that gets me around. A watch however, is much more interesting!

Possibly worth more than the house ;)
It's just a matter of time...

If that's just for one watch, it must be a Richard Mille (boo!) or a Greubel Forsey (hooray!). Unless you live in the Falls Road!

Nearly all my watches individually are worth more than my car but that wasn't the case when I owned this..................

My daily watch is worth more than my daily car. But none of the others are. And all put together the collection is worth less than my weekend car.

Great question. Some of my watches are worth more than my cars.

  15. #65
Not at the moment but my car is depreciating and my watch isn't so in a couple years time - yes my watch will be worth more than my car.

  16. #66
my collection is worth more than my car if i add them up together but if im wearing 1 watch then my car is worth more

  17. #67
If its the classic car, yes. and the reg on it worth more than the car also.

  18. #68
Well my watches are worth more than all my three cars put together.

Indeed a car was written off by some scrotes in February and I had to get another. This prompted me to sell a few of my many watches and within a month I had got back the price of the car.

Being on a roll though I have continued to put some watches up on eBay, as I figure collectable G Shocks are not the usual sales corner fare. Another one went this morning for £600 clear, after all fees and posting to the USA. I paid £360 for it three years ago.

Just another 250+ plus to go!

Each of my watches is worth more than your car. And yours. And you over there. Not more than his car though, that’s a beauty.

    It's an interesting question.

About 6 years ago my car was worth about 10 times as much my most expensive watch.

Now my car is worth a little more than half the value of my most expensive watch.

What makes this interesting is that it's the same car, and the same watch...

Possibly just under current market value based on the current collection in my possession.

Was it a good watch choice or bad car choice or an awful lot if miles.

If the watch was worth 5K and the car 50K, that means if the watch is still worth 5K the car about 3K

Of course could be Watch was 1k car 10K, watch now 700 car 400

Either case that’s diabolical depreciation on the car.

Individually all of my watches are worth more than either of the cars. Come to think of it, my kids braces cost more than the cars are currently worth.

Each of my watches are individually worth more than my car so cumulatively it is not even close! (Excluding the ever trusty f91w of course)

It's an interesting one for sure!

Car was £25K seven years ago and I had bought a second hand Rolex GMTII not that long before for about £2,500 (so car worth 10 times as much).

Car is now worth about £5K and the watch is worth £8K-ish, so not far off double the value of the car!

    Crazy isn't it?

I think you’re being a little optimistic on the value of the gmt but your point still applies.

No, for what I have in vehicles I could have a couple of well heeled Pateks backed up with a couple Rolex's, money in the bank and could probably afford a girlfriend to boot if the wife said OK.

I feel this thread would be much more interesting with some pics.

I'll try my best to do some tomorrow as I appreciate it's late tonight.

Well all the watches rather than the one, but one of my watches is probably worth close to the cars and 4 motorbikes! Scary. The watches are going!
It's just a matter of time...

Very funny thread. A car is so important to me for many reasons (including commuting to work) but yet it managed to slip down the priority list vs a watch.

Possibly, but it's one of the very last (2007) with all the boxes, papers etc, so I suspect it's not far off that.

If it’s a stick dial with the later movement (perhaps someone could confirm this) then you may well be underestimating it’s value.

Just looked it up. If it’s a Z serial it could have the 3186 movement; if it’s an M serial it definitely has.

The 16710 with a 3186 movement are sought after and worth a fair bit more than a 16710 with the 3185 movement.

    Yes and no.

Seiko s worth less than the BMW. Panerai s worth more than the Midget.

My yin and yang are in harmony 😀.

I don't own a car, so I will have to ask the bus driver tomorrow: bus <> SMP 300c. I suspect the bus will win, by a long way.
