There are clearly people who think that sports watches go with anything you wear. But then, why have a watch collection? Surely the idea is to have a range of options .
A Daytona no more suits every occasion than a Calatrava does. Which is good, because it gives an opportunity to own more watches.
And I think Beckham grasped the issue by wearing a nice pocket watch. He'd thought about it.

Watch spotting at the royal wedding

How about a practical example. You're wearing a conservatively cut, dark suit with black shoes, white shirt and simple, classy, tie.Which is how most of the men dressed at the wedding. Which watch better fits that look?

    Or....
Then again, there's the middle way, vaguely sporty but still slim, simple and on a black leather strap.
Or, again, if you must wear a metal bracelet, but want to keep it simple and unobtrusive, maybe this?
To my tastes, the classic Grand Seiko probably fits the bill best. It doesn't call attention to itself, the style fits the conservative nature of a wedding suit. And it fits very easily under the cuff.

    Either, IMO.

FWIW, the last wedding I attended saw me wearing this on my wrist:

And all the talk about Harry ignores the fact that he was wearing military uniform, not a suit.
I think you'l find the women had more sense, and didn't wear the chunky watches many of them own. They have more visual awareness.

Would have to agree with the going wrist commando at formal occasions. It is quite liberating to be free of the wrist presence and adds a touch of the Bon Vivant, do not know the time and have no need to know of it.

Not seen him wear his Ex 2 for a while now
Probably Patek, or a pocket watch.
It's just a matter of time...

Although to be fair to him, I’ve only noticed him wearing a Tudor since the partnership - with maybe the Daytona at Wimbledon - but not sure if that was before or after the announcement.

Since when have weddings been the perfect occasion for a rascist joke? You may not have intended it, but it’s racist. I hope it entertained you though.

That's just the point, that picture is not a joke.
    On any level.
It is an outdated, extremely offensive racial stereotype that doesn't bear any repetition whatsoever, which is why I do not even quote it above.

and yes, I am perfectly lightened up about the happy occasion of the wedding of two young people. Good luck to them.
I am less lightened by your thoughtlessness, at best.
I am shocked that anyone with half a brain could consider such an image inoffensive or non-racist.
Of course it is, regardless of your intent.

Dont think above was very clever either.

I didn’t notice anyone jumping on a certain BB comment earlier.

Nope nor did I, wonder if these people also raise such high morals in the BP. Hypocrisy is nauseating.

Why would you wear a Daytona to a wedding.. are you going to measure lap times..

Surely there are many classic dress watches.

Or would you wear a minute repeater to a trackday.

Then again why not wear a Black pair of Converse Chuck Taylor 70's classic with a Kenzo Bin liner suit and a Dre snapback.

What makes you think that every post has been read by everyone? I for one have no idea what you're referring to. Seeing what I saw, and responded to, at the end of the thread didn't make me want to investigate the contents of the thread any further, so I didn't.

I want to make it clear that I accept my post was stupid and ill considered.
I have travelled to every continent and met with all kinds of cultures. There is not one I have not appreciated and enjoyed. We are all the same. Good and bad everywhere.
Just returned from two weeks in Sicily where the royal wedding was a popular subject.
Many remarked on the ethnic introduction to the royal household. I chose the wrong image to explore that.
I think fresh blood is good.
To the original poster and to all,
    Please accept my apology.

Since most of us no longer wear Top Hats, dress for dinner, or are bound by "Planters", the sartorial days of whether a watch is suitable with certain attire are more or less gone. JR-M being the exception.

I wouldn't wear a bright yellow G-Schock with a suit, but if I did I would probably carry it off well enough, as opposed to someone who "dresses impeccably" but whose choice of tailor, and lack of attention to general fitness and physique might make them look more of a sight than me!

I'm sure Hello! magazine will have some photos soon which will enlighten us on who wore what.
